Doctor Who… the hell cares?

(title taken from a MST3k riff and totally not meant to be dismissive.) I'm disenchanted with Doctor Who. When I first started watching, Series 5 with Matt Smith had JUST started. It took us a while to catch up to Series 5, but when we got there I was all excited by the prospect of a new doctor, a new companion, and new stories. I'd loved 9 and 10. I loved 8, too, and ...

Windburn

I had a nice holiday weekend. Thanksgiving itself was kinda crazy - we had TWO Thanksgiving lunches to go to that day, one at 11 and one at 1. So much foooood. Friday Luna went to the vet and got fixed! While waiting to pick her up, we went to see Big Hero 6 which was cute. I especially liked the short, Feast. When we got Luna home and opened up her cat ...

Things I don’t understand

In today's issue of things I don't understand... Who decided that radio station DJs should spend morning rush hour talking, calling people and sharing their inane opinions? Just play some damn music and keep your thoughts about the latest internet memes or "goofy news" to yourself.

Flickr Thoughts

So, the past couple of months, I've been trying to clean up my flickr account. Retagging, resorting, etc. I've gotten to where I really hate flickr, and I'd totally move to some other site if it didn't mean basically killing most of the photos on my website for several months time. It's not even the annoying yahoo! redesigns I hate, it's the culture. What used to be a nice, supportive ...

wah

I had a teacher back in high school who never really cared for me. I was a lazy student and not very good at his subject (Spanish), so I didn't mind the disdain - it was, at that point, pretty well-deserved. However, my senior year, he decided our Spanish class should attend this Spanish Fair. It was like a regional Science Fair, but with lots of different projects and "competitions" ...

The Case of the Missing Lip Stain

So last summer, I got some of Revlon's "Just Bitten" lipstain. The commercials claimed it to be "long lasting" which is something I need when wearing costumes all day long. I LOVED it! I liked it for wearing outside of costumes, too! For costumes, it was easier to put on than regular lipstick for me (I think because it's like a marker), functioned as a lipliner as well, and provided ...

On talking smack

If you're going to talk smack about someone's costume, you need to at least be familiar with the thing you're talking smack about. I made a Sana Kurata costume back in the day, based on the anime/manga "Kodocha." It's never been ALL that well-known here, but I very much enjoyed it, had fansubs of the later seasons that were never released here and scoured ebay for merchandise. Oh the ...

The Saga of the Running Shorts

So I recently started Couch to 5K and, as the weather quickly got warmer, I went pull out some of my exercise shorts to wear instead of the track pants I'd been wearing. Turns out none of the shorts I have have pockets! Totally not useful since I need to be able to carry my keys, phone, etc. So off to Target I went. Headed to the women's athletic department, ...

Random musings

Why is Star Wars costuming so over-sexualized? I've noticed it for a while, but tumblr really brought it to my attention recently. So over there on tumblr, I have a handful of tracked tags. I don't look at them all that often, just if I'm really super bored, usually. Some of the ones I have are: "doctor who cosplay" "lord of the rings cosplay" "Harry potter cosplay" "comic book cosplay" ...

The saga of my sunglasses

So I am really bad about sunglasses. I've never been into them that much - I'll occasionally buy a pair, and then either decide I look silly in them and never wear them, or forget them, or lose them immediately. Never really mattered since I don't care about sunglasses anyway. Well one day while swimming at my aunt's pool, it was awfully bright out and of course I had no ...
