On talking smack

If you’re going to talk smack about someone’s costume, you need to at least be familiar with the thing you’re talking smack about.

I made a Sana Kurata costume back in the day, based on the anime/manga “Kodocha.” It’s never been ALL that well-known here, but I very much enjoyed it, had fansubs of the later seasons that were never released here and scoured ebay for merchandise. Oh the good old days.

Not long after I made this costume, I stumbled across a site where someone had posted it and was making fun of it. “If your costume is so bad you have to write your character’s name on the shirt, what’s the point in trying??” or something to that effect.

Yeah if you want to talk about how I used puffy fabric paint on the front or how my babbit pin fell apart after the first wearing or how my shoes really don’t work for it – fine. Even then you don’t really know someone’s reasoning behind it! At least know what you’re talking about to begin with.

I could go on and on about this subject but something just made me remember that incident and tickled me, so I thought I’d post it. Maybe one day I’ll write something longer. Oh, and in googling to find the reference image of this costume – I saw where SEVERAL other cosplayers have done this particular costume now! Yay Kodocha! Now I want to dig out my mangas and reread everything…
