looks like somebody has a case of the mondays

Good grief I can't remember what I posted last week except that sad dog, I'm going to have to go back and look to see where I left off.... Ok. Now I'm on track. Last week I said I was going to dye that silk on thursday well I did it Monday night. I put both my excess fabric (meant for the sleeves) and the skirt in some "emerald green" ...

2017 Year in Review

It's that time of the year again... time to see what I accomplished this year, what I didn't get to, and what I did instead of doing the things I said I was going to do. So last year I said my goals for 2017 were: 1. Georgian Belle – as I said above, finish it up for Visioncon. Did I?! Not really. I redid the wig, twice - once for Visioncon, and ...

Photoshoot Stuff!! Part two

I got the rest of my photoshoot stuff uploaded over the weekend! First up is Bespin Leia. Some thoughts. I took the length up of the tunic a bit for the photoshoot but it created too much fabric at the waist/belt-line and looked sloppy :( I think I just need to take the whole thing apart and go back to like, step 2 - take the sides up a little, remove ...

Queen Amidala’s Parade Dress Hair Tutorial Part 2 – The Hairpiece!

So a couple of years ago I did a tutorial on how I did my hair for my Amidala Parade costume. I used my own hair, just put into little buns, teased, and pinned in a certain way. It wasn't perfect but it worked OK. I have been playing around with the idea of making a hairpiece for AGES. I started one back in 2010 when I was going to wear ...

John Williams Tribute!

This weekend we got to do a really fun event - the Memphis Symphony Orchestra was doing a John Williams tribute and invited us out for it. Friday night we went up to the rehearsal to get an idea of what they wanted us to do. For each Star wars song they wanted a related character or characters onstage. For the prequel era we only had Amidala (me) and Jango. ...

a hairpiece!

So as I mentioned earlier I've been trying to put together a hairpiece for my Queen Amidala costume. This is something I've tried to do for ages -- finally attempted it in 2010 but gave up. So here we are again. Trying to make a hairpiece for a 12 year old costume. But if I can make this work it means I don't have to torture my hair when I wear this. ...

a weird weekend

I made a to-do list friday, let's see what I accomplished... Amidala: 1. Clean the dress. 2. Redye the lower petals. 3. Remake or fix current tiara. 4. Make a new hairpiece. Bespin Leia: 1. Shorten the tunic! 2. Fix my pleating. I guess half isn't bad. Friday is when I got most of that done. I hand-washed the dress in cold water with a little laundry detergent and hung it up to dry. It got ...

a to-do list

I have a to-do list even though we're on the wrong side of the convention, haha. But I have a few things I need to get done over this weekend -- I'm doing an event in Amidala next weekend, so she needs some attention. And while I have it on we are going to do a white backdrop photoshoot, and also do Bespin Leia at the same time (and probably ...

A few more Jackson Generals pics

Chase gave me his pics! Man I love how my Amidala costume looks from the back. As I mentioned elsewhere I'm amazed at how this costume has stood the test of time. If I'd left the edges of the petals unfinished, closer to how the actual dress looks, it would have long since frayed into oblivion... the serged petals are still in pretty good shape, and cleaned up pretty well. ...

Craziness

Let's start on Friday. Friday after work, we loaded up the car with costumes and Kevins and drove up to my grandparent's house in Jackson. Had a quick dinner with them (which Kevin enjoyed because he got spaghetti) then back home for the evening. Saturday we got up, went and had breakfast, did a little running around. The bookstore up there that usually does Free Comic Book Day (and invites ...
