a weird weekend

I made a to-do list friday, let’s see what I accomplished…
Amidala:
1. Clean the dress.
2. Redye the lower petals.
3. Remake or fix current tiara.
4. Make a new hairpiece.

Bespin Leia:
1. Shorten the tunic!
2. Fix my pleating.

I guess half isn’t bad.
Friday is when I got most of that done. I hand-washed the dress in cold water with a little laundry detergent and hung it up to dry. It got most of the problem areas taken care of – mostly the hem. There’s a couple of little spots on the front tie piece that I need to go in with Grandma’s Stain Remover but otherwise it looks better.
Then Chase held up the bulk of the cape while I re-dyed the lower petals. Some of them turned out ok, some not. But it looks better than it did.

Chase is working on a new tiara for me. I was originally trying to do this with wire, bugle beads and silver beads – actually the exact same materials I used first time around. And when I say exact I mean exact LOL, it’s all stuff left over from 2005. Well that wasn’t working out like I wanted, so Chase jumped in to build something new from scratch. He was working on it yesterday but I haven’t seen it. Fingers crossed!

I started on the new/(old) hairpiece. I took apart what I started trying to do back in 2010 and got it brushed out. It’s still kind of a mess and tangles at everything I try to do so I’m not sure how this is going to work. Chase helped me make a little framework piece I attached to the netting, and to those I’m attaching some foam pieces that I’ll cover in black or brown fabric so they blend in. Then I’ll wrap the hair around them. Hopefully. Working on it some more tonight, we’ll see how this goes or if I show up with my own hair on Saturday LOL

Bespin Leia, I was going to shorten the tunic yesterday but never did it. So sometime this week. I DID take the cape off the yoke, repleat it and get it reattached though! That was scary but I think I got it figured out. The side panels should hang more directly under my arms and straighter now. I do need to press it again before then but otherwise it’s ready to go.

So beyond sewing stuff this weekend was very interesting.
First Friday we noticed we were having some roof problems because of a clogged gutter. Chase decided to fix it first thing Saturday morning. Then it stormed all night so we worried about it….
Saturday Chase got up to run on to the hardware store to get stuff to clean the gutter and patch the roof until we could get someone out to look at it. But before he could leave, I looked at my email and found a notice from one of our subscriptions that my payment couldn’t be processed. We checked the account and we had a fraudulent charge from the night before that wiped out our checking. So that’s fun. Of course the fraud department at the bank is closed on the weekend so we went up to our local branch and met with somebody who filled out all the paperwork to start an investigation today (Monday). She canceled my card (it was specifically my card! Which we rarely use so that was weird. And whoever used it SIGNED for it! Though the bank didn’t have a copy of the signature.) Thankfully we had some cash leftover from the vacation to get us through our roof-related errands we needed to run that morning.

The rest of the day was spent with family; belated Easter lunch, birthday dinner, it was nice. But it was all in all a long, weird, day.

So you know what I did all day yesterday? I slept. Like literally that’s all I did. I woke up at 9:30. Got up and ate breakfast then fell asleep on the couch. Then woke up and had lunch, unpacked my bag from the trip. Then back to the couch to sleep again. Then I got up and worked on my hairpiece a little, had dinner, a little more hairpiece work, then to bed.

Been a long time since I had a day of pretty much doing nothing. So that was nice. The rest of this week is busy so I’m going to enjoy it while I can!

Luna was my nap buddy all day.
