a new reality

Well here we are, I am now living in a world without my Mema.
I just wrote a shit ton of paragraphs about how this weekend was and what it was like being in my sewing room absolutely surrounded by things that remind me of her and then I deleted it all. I think if you’ve been reading my blog for anytime at all you know how this weekend was for me.

She left us Friday afternoon. I knew when I saw it was my DAD on the caller ID (he’s a texter, not a caller, like me) what he was calling about. Mom was with her and said it was peaceful.

Anyway this weekend was exhausting. I feel like I slept half the weekend, I felt so tired from crying and had like a low headache in the back of my head since Friday.

At this point just waiting to hear what the funeral arrangements are so I can figure it out with work.

So Luna likes to monch on the (fake) christmas tree and we have to put orange peels under it every year to keep her out from underneath it. I hadn’t gotten an orange yet when I put it up this year so she’d been under there a few times chomping on it until we were able to get an orange and put the peels down there. But it got me thinking – she obviously likes something about the chew-factor of this fake plastic tree, are there any cat chew toys out there that would give her the same experience? And apparently cat chew toys aren’t really a thing. I did find some silvervine chew sticks, we ordered those, and she was not interested at all. Well, she rubbed her face against them and rolled around on top and then hasn’t done a thing with them since. Can someone tell Jackson Galaxy to get on that, start developing cat chew toys or treats?

Terrible monorail accident, monorail fully derailed from track by giant cat – Goofy was ejected from the vehicle but rescued with no injuries.

I did sew a little bit this weekend.

I don’t have a lot of pics from this week of work on it. I did get the back opened up and a zipper in (dyed it to match the fabric, got pretty darn close). I did leave the elastic waistband in, and then sewed all the pleats down to it permanently around the waist. I tacked a few of the pleats in place higher upper on the chest/neckline area, and then finally got the sleeves sewn in.

Yesterday I finally got the slit cut into the front of the chiffon skirt, and also split the chiffon sleeves open. I started hemming the lining layer… and actually got it halfway done before I decided I needed to finish the inside seams at least from the knee down so I undid the hemming I did and I’ll redo it tonight. The silk lining layer is just fraying a bit and I don’t want it showing through that front slit at all.

So I found out this morning I get 3 days of bereavement leave (I thought it was only 1), which is nice, because it made me think, if I’d had an unexpected 5 day weekend in the past, I’d have been jetting to Jackson for a Mema weekend ASAP. I’m going to take that as a gift from Mema – enjoy the weekend, sleep in, get some sewing done.

So this week I’m going to finish hemming the lining layer of the dress, maybe start hemming the chiffon layer. Once I do those things the basic dress will mostly be finished and I can start sewing the ribbon trim on and then figure out how I want to handle the design in the back.

That’s all for this week. I guess I’ll be back next week.
