why is it so monday in here

Boy what a strange weekend. But let’s rewind back to Halloween since I hadn’t talked about Halloween night yet.

I wore Wanda that night to hand out candy:

But we had such a low trick or treater turn out 🙁 We have this one group that gets driven around on a trailer, about 25-ish kids all come pouring off of it when they pull into the cove, so that was the bulk of it. Outside of that, we only had 2 lone families who walked up to the house. One was Spider-Man and Black Widow, and the other family had a little Black Panther, so I was glad I wore Wanda.

Ton of candy left over though. Going to send it to Chase’s office. Bummer.

Next year I’m thinking we add more lights to the house to make it more visible from the main road, maybe that will help? We are kinda tucked into the back corner of the cove so maybe people don’t notice that there are houses lit up for trick or treaters.

Tried to take a few selfies in the low light but it was impossible to hold my arm steady enough during the long exposure, still think they look kinda neat.

The long exposure in the low light made some neat effects with our spinning projector.

So yeah after messing around taking pics and recording a tiktok I put on comfy clothes and eventually turned the lights off after nobody came by for a good hour and a half.

The rest of the week, I did a tiny bit of sewing on wedding Leia… but nothing really worth taking photos of. I got the panels of the chiffon outer dress assembled finally, and gathered the upper edges. Got the underdress neckline stabilized and ready for them to be sewn together. Will hopefully be doing that tonight and get over that hump. I feel like once I have that done the rest of the basic dress will come together pretty easily (sleeves, bodice, etc)

Friday night Chase was shooting Evil Dead the Musical. I tagged along to play assistant and we went to dinner first at Molly’s. As we were finishing up dinner, we got an alert that the alarm at our house was going off – acoustic alarm (window break) sounding from our bathroom.

Chase got on the phone with the alarm company — then called our neighbor who walked over and said he didn’t see anything wrong anywhere – no broken windows, no branches down (it was really windy that night), etc.

So not knowing what else to do – Chase had to be at the theater in the next few minutes to start setting up – I called Kristie and she went over to check. We started driving towards home just in case, but thankfully she got there, went in, walked around, and didn’t see anything out of place anywhere. So we went on to the play. I ended up handling the camera in the top row while he dealt with the ones on the sides.

The “splash zone” after the play. It was hilarious.

We got loaded up and headed home – Kristie had left on every light in the house it seemed like LOL Walked around and found the culprit – part of the shower head that was held onto the wall with a suction cup had fallen off and apparently was loud enough to set off the alarm. Fun.

Saturday we ran a few errands in the morning, went and had beignets at a place in bartlett, then as we were coming back home I spotted a new place called the Batcave so of course we had to stop and have a look. Turned out to be the opening day and I won a shirt in their raffle!

Really cool place, lots of neat stuff to look at, and nice to have something in our neck of the woods.

Then back home to await our big delivery!

We bought a sleep number mattress a month ago. Saturday was the day if finally arrived! They got it set up very quickly, showed us how to use it, and we got the bedroom finally put all back together.

Was it a dream right out of the gate? No. It was very comfy and the top layer of foam felt REALLY good after our really stiff, old ikea mattress. But I woke up with a sore lower back and the same neck/shoulder pain I always have. Chase had it worse and ended up moving to the couch early in the AM, having pains from his back.

Last night was better – I softened my side quite a bit and slept better, still a little lower back pain but I changed out my pillows and tried to force myself to sleep on my back a bit more and it was an improvement. Chase also did better.

I think for me it’ll be better when I get my new pillow which will hopefully be soon. It’ll take some getting used to. I love the sleep analytics they give you, time slept, time restless, time out of bed, heart rate, HRV, and breath rate.

Saturday night we watched Weird: The Al Yankovic story and it was great.

Sunday was a mess of a day.

We were going to the Japan Fest but not in any hurry to get there early – we planned to get there around lunch so we could eat and not rush in the morning. Especially since I still hadn’t decided if I wanted to wear Utena or Jupiter.

I was leaning towards Utena because I was just a couple days off of it being exactly 21 years since I debuted my first Utena (November 3 2001), AND I had no good photos of it, just a handful of iphone photos so some nice photos at the botanic gardens was great. BUT Utena is not that recognizable anymore. So I thought maybe Jupiter instead since more people know that and I haven’t gotten to wear it anywhere since making it in 2020. Also easier to sit in and not have a wig in my face. But more worried about spilling on it than Utena (all that white).

So after a lot of hemming and hawing that morning I finally decided to go with the more recognizable choice and wear Jupiter.

No shapewear because I planned to eat ALL THE THINGS and didn’t want anything holding me back LOL

So we headed that way and got to the parking lot… which was a mess. There was no one directing traffic. We’d just sit for a couple of minutes waiting on a car ahead of the line to decide where they were going. Cars were going one way down narrow paths, pulling out in front of other cars, it was chaos.

Then we realized that all of the people we could see ahead of us was the LINE TO GET IN. As we drove by it just got longer and longer. It had to be 300 some-odd people just standing in this line just to get in. As we drove by near the front of the line it was clear they only had one ticket area open. Seems like they clearly under-estimated the crowd. We thought going later in the day would be better but apparently everybody else had the same idea.

So we noped out of there. As much as we wanted to go – and as fun as the photos I see from friends look – I didn’t want to waste my energy standing in that line just to get in for us to turn around and leave an hour later when we’d walked around and looked at everything. I guess we’ll try again next year and go earlier.

(But I guess that explains why we saw so many cars LEAVING while we were trying to get in the parking lot. I think a lot of other people saw that lined and left too.)

So I got in costume for nothing. We didn’t even go take pics anywhere because we were hungry so we went and got sushi take out and went home. All I got were these snapchat filter selfies while sitting in the car.

And thanks to snapchat have a glimpse into my future in 80 years…

(This was the filter that it opened up on and initially scared the crap out of me)

So we came home, ate, tried to work on leaves in the front yard but nothing was cooperating, went to the grocery to get dinner stuff, ate, and then I started not feeling great and went to bed early (ok this morning)

So this week I really need to dig into Leia – get the basic dress finished up and I should be able to do that because this weekend is a designated sewing weekend. May go see Wakanda Forever, we’ll see.
