Happy Halloweeeen!
So last week, Tuesday night, I got out all of of costumes for the weekend and did repairs/updates. That night I reglued my Wanda front piece back to the bodice (probably wearing it tonight but even if I don’t it needed to be done) and fixed Kevin’s jedi Luke boots — last time he wore them, one of the zipper pulls just crumbled into nothing. (I mean, they are Chase’s old Vader boots from 2005, so they’ve been around…) I replaced it with velcro because that seemed like the easiest thing.
Kevin came over Wednesday so I could do some more updates that i needed his legs for.
I wanted to do some updates to his farmboy Luke costume – namely, I wanted to make boot covers for the putee wraps because I’ve spent 16 years wrapping his legs with various pieces of khaki fabric and I’m over it. Made them exactly like Chase’s from his hobo Luke costume – just fitted to Kevin’s legs. I picked up some cotton knit fabric the weekend before at Joann, dyed it to match his shoes as close as I could get, and then sewed it in strips onto the base (leftover cotton from Chase’s burger costume). Only thing I forgot? Velcro. I had to use what I had on hand, so in some places he’s got black velcro, which doesn’t look great, but I’ll replace it later.
I also replaced the closure on both farmboy and jedi belts — it was previously just a little peg on the buckle and the belts would NEVER stay up and in the right place, so I replaced it with velcro so they could be closed tighter. Worked fine on farmboy, on jedi Luke it ripped the top layer of “leather” off the belt. But that didn’t happen til after the con on Saturday so oh well – something to figure out later.
But the big thing was that while working on his boot covers on farmboy, I discovered that the heel form on the back of both boots is completely crushed and crumbling everywhere. (I mean, they are old women’s knockoff Ugg boots from 2006, sooo)
So I had to do my best to cut what was left out of that and reconstruct it with some buckram and fleece. Not the best but it held. I’ve GOT to replace those shoes.
Thursday night Kevin and I headed to the Spooky Science Spectacular. We were on our own since Chase was busy shooting a play.
We had fun, they were very sweet and gave Kevin a bag of candy to take home.
Kevin was done after about an hour or so, so we headed out and picked up dinner. After dinner we recorded a few videos while we were still in costume.
Friday night we just chilled and watched movies.
Saturday was Midtown Con! I had really wanted to wear ceremonial Leia and put Kevin in ceremonial Luke, but the weather report said rain and storms all day plus high only of 63, so I wasn’t going to drag ceremonial into the rain and be cold the whole time, so I wore jedi Leia and put Kevin in jedi Luke. Chase wore his hobo Luke.

Seemed a little smaller than the spring version but was still fun. Kevin got to play Sonic. We didn’t really buy anything, except some Halloween art by a young artist which is now on our fridge.
And the weather ended up being great – at least for the first part of the day. I could’ve worn ceremonial.
After the con, since we were in the area, we went to visit my grandma at her rehab home so she could see us all in costume. We got stopped on the street for a photo on the way in by someone driving by LOL After a stop at the grocery store and a bakery, we headed home.
And then Kevin and I spent about 4 hours recording tiktoks LOL. Most of these will never be public because I am protective of Kevin, but a few of them I may post eventually. We did one to the Wonder Twins audio, starting out as ANH Luke and Leia and “transforming” into jedi Luke and Leia. The others are all silly things set to mostly Stepbrothers audios that’s really just to make our friends and family laugh.
Yesterday ended up being a lazy day – took Kevin home, ran some errands, I took a long nap, cleaned up my sewing room again after the 4 hour recording marathon, and caught up on Andor.
Tonight is obviously Halloween so I’m either wearing Wanda or Edith for handing out candy – probably Wanda. Our weather isn’t bad today – high of 70, rain chance minimal. So I’m hoping we have some trick or treaters. Especially so they take all this candy we bought – got a 200 piece bag of candy that had some stuff in it we would eat if it didn’t all get taken – but when I opened it the sugar smell was SO strong it about made me gag. And even the Reese’s in there tasted too sweet and weird. So yeah I don’t want any of it LOL I dumped some out into our candy bowl to hopefully air it out LOL
Then finally back to work on Leia. I’ve taken 2 weeks off without meaning to but I’ve also just been enjoying lazy nights watching star trek with Luna on the couch, so it’s not a loss since I don’t have any events coming up for it anyway. I’m on my own timeline here.
