80s Murder Mystery, House stuff, Leia progress

Friday night we had a birthday party to go to! And we were going to be playing an 80s Murder Mystery game, so we had to come as our characters. I was “Toni Oregano” who had 1 hit with “Hey Dickie” and who also ran a mogwai rescue. LOL. Chase was “Nork from Pork” who was on a popular tv series but now believes he’s actually from planet Pork.

I put together a quick costume for the night:

My Ripley shoes and Utena white uniform skirt were the start – though that skirt doesn’t quite fit me like it did back in 2003 LOL I had to wear white shorts underneath it. I found the red sweater in my closet and cut the megaphone shape out of blue spandex, and the letters out of some leftover white vinyl.

I just hotglued the letters onto the megaphone – so I can just pop the megaphone off (sewed it on really loosely) with no damage to the sweater.

I can’t remember Ash’s character name but she was basically Elvira.

Cath was basically Debbie Gibson, Lauren was Cyndi Lauper, Mel was Paula Abdul, Rach was Ralph Macchio. Jeremy was Crocodile Dundee, Josh was Peewee Herman, LOL. I forget the “fake” names everybody else had.

Toni Basil and Cyndi Lauper team up!

I had to look up on youtube how to do mall bangs. Never did them/had them back then… the funny thing was, after we got home I washed my makeup off but left the bangs like that. I woke up Saturday morning and they were still intact LOL.

Saturday was supposed to be staying home and sewing all day. It rained all day and the temps dropped again so it was a nice day for that. But we ended up having to run out to take care of some house-related stuff but it was all for the good. As soon as I got back home I jumped back into sewing.

Tinkerbell is currently on a break… I’m working on a Leia costume for a friend. Not normally something I’d do but we did a trade, and since I just finished redoing mine I thought I’d be confident enough to tackle it!
Over a few nights last week and this weekend I got the dress and lining put together, understitched the hem, sleeves done, collar made, hood cut and almost finished hemming (I had about another 8 inches to hem last night when the olympics primetime coverage ended and it was bed time, so I’ll finish it tonight.) I was having a small issue with one side of the outer dress wanting to hang lower than the lining at the slit on one side, so I messed with that a bit last night and left it to hang overnight to see if that fixed it. I’d hate to have to redo the hem to fix it but if I gotta I gotta! Also planning tonight to get the hood gathered and attached, and get the collar in – close up the dress at the neck and then it’ll just be getting the hook and eyes in. If the hanging problem is fixed I’m hoping I could possibly finish it all tonight?! Fingers crossed.

Dress as of last night!

Ok now I have to pause because something really weird just happened. I had no lunch to take to work today, so I decided to give Ubereats a try. We’ve used it once at home, but from work I can get McDonald’s, so I thought I’d try that out. Was super easy to order, order was picked up quickly, I walked out front to meet the driver since we have multiple offices here and I didn’t give him the suite number. Driver gave me my food, I tipped him cash. He said he had another delivery for our building too, would I mind taking it in? I said no prob, because we share the building with 3 other companies but none of them are big. So I took my food back to my office then went around and knocked on everybody’s doors…. and nobody had ordered it. So I brought it back to my office and looked at the receipt, no identifying info was these except a first name. Tried to get on Ubereats and see if I could message the driver to come back, couldn’t find a way to do that. My boss ended up walking it to the buildings next door and nobody there ordered it, either. Called the place it was ordered from but they couldn’t help since it was thru Ubereats and they didn’t have the info.
Very weird. I wish there’d been a way to get back in touch with the driver — was going to call ubereats but I didn’t want to get him in trouble, plus I figure whoever ordered is was probably already on the phone complaining that her order said delivered and it wasn’t, and she wasn’t going to want food that random strangers had been walking around with for the past 25 minutes anyhow.

So back to my weekend…
Sunday we went to the Tiger game! First time we’ve been in a couple of years actually. We lost so that wasn’t fun, but they handed out balloons (like the long skinny balloons you use for balloon animals) and we got some. People squeaked them to make noise while the other team was shooting free throws. Jean made us hats. One of mine popped and went flying over the edge of our seats down below, LOL.

Best part though was I finally met Pouncer!

I’ve gotten my picture with Grizz, Rockey the Redbird, Sarge the Jackson Generals mascot… but I haven’t gotten to meet Pouncer since I was a little kid. If only I’d been in Leia, I would have had pics with all 3 while wearing Leia. But this is good too. I also don’t even care that my face looks super weird because I was super excited.

I got this cute Leia shirt at Target last week. It’s so soft! Also I need to clean that mirror.

So this week – finish up the Leia, back to Tinkerbell and this weekend I’m going to start on Kev’s Peter Pan since he’ll be hanging out with me. Thursday is Black Panther!! yeah!

I have 2 big non-news posts I want to make soon – a blog post about house stuff, and one about Padme costumes. The Padme costume one will be more fun so I’ll do that one next probably…
