rock and roll

So this weekend was…strange.

Thursday I had a hair appointment after work — to get my Mon Mothma wig trimmed!

This was the before. I didn’t think to take an after. He cut a lot off to thin it out! Looks much better!

And also my ribbon for the white medieval dress came in:

So pretty!

I got some more done on the dress that night, too, but it was mostly just super basic stuff that didn’t need any photos taken. Like I think that was the night I finished the hem.

Friday was off to sew but it got off to a rocky start due to some news from work. I had to go to Hobby Lobby so I just made that the first thing I did that day, was there when they opened. I only needed some fusible interfacing for my collar, and I was looking for something I could use as a circlet.
Aaaaaaaaaaand I immediately see that the simplicity patterns are 99 cents. So I have to pick out 10.

Princess Peach/Daisy! I’ll probably never use this but I wanted it for the collection.
I got the Mario Brothers one because look at the cute girls’ overalls pattern.
The new Bombshell patterns – Black Canary, Stargirl, Batwoman – all have some interesting pieces that could come in handy one day.
A sort of Matrix-y coat looking pattern cuz why not.
A jacket pattern – it’s kinda cut off in the photo, but I saw it in the drawer looking for something else and grabbed it. It’s cute.
Cute geeky dresses
The Jyn/Zoe pattern
Cute retro Snow White pattern!! This was my fav.

So I headed on home and set to work. Got the interfacing in the collar and the collar sewn up. Sleeves set in. Everything pressed.

Oh! I also got the left side of my closet cleaned out.

I left everything on the right since that side still has at least one anchor in the wall.

I had a scrap piece of belting I backed my ribbon in to make a belt:

Originally I sewed some thin white ribbon onto the back as a closure but it was too hard to get it tied tight enough, so I took it off and sewed on a small piece of elastic with a hook and eye.

At this point it was basically done except for a few last things.

I found some leftover pearl trim in my ribbon box and thought about putting it on the collar. I sent it to Chase for opinions and he said no, doesn’t need it.

Next I got my bun covers made. I used a plate to cut a circle out of that white lace-y material I got last weekend. Sewed a channel around each end and threaded elastic through. Super simple.

So here’s what this is… Medieval Leia.

Chase got home and while we ate dinner, UPS showed up with a VIP… VERY IMPORTANT PACKAGE.

What is it?!

OMG

AHHHH

Too small for Chase, haha!

Perfect for me!

FINALLY, so happy to have a new helmet. After Dragoncon we’ll start working on this. I know the rest of my costume probably needs updates also.

Friday night I sat down and played with the circlet for Leia. I had bought 3 metal headbands at Hobby Lobby – I taped all 3 together at the end to make one larger one. (Unfortunately it would appear that the only photo I took of the finished crown was only in my IG story and not in my camera roll, boo). I found some rectangular silver beads in my stash and wired those in place. It turned out cute.

I also used the pendant from my disneybound Leia to make a new necklace using some other silver beads. It’s ok, I’m not crazy about it, but it works.
And I got the hem done on TFA Leia so she’s all done except a last pressing.

Skipping forward to Saturday and I found some scrap white material in my pile o’fabric in the corner and used that to make a veil for the circlet.
Medieval Leia is done except one spot I noticed I need to fix on the back of the collar, and I want to put a frog closure on the inside of the collar so that it closes at the neck.
I kept thinking about other options… the pearl trim on the collar, or a band of the ribbon around the upper arms, or beading the belt? But I dunno, I think it’s fine as it is. It’ll be a fun costume to wear.

Saturday we got on up and ran errands.

I got the Jyn doll because I’m 8 years old and can’t say no

And then guess what? I can’t show you anything else from the weekend. I worked on accessories for the pink thing but I’m keeping them secret for now, so I have no pics to share yet!

Sunday we had a visitor. A local rescue brought over a pup we’d looked at and let us keep her overnight. I’ll expound on that in a minute.

Ash also came over and worked on her Scrump doll to go with her Lilo costume. That was fun! Then dinner with my parents and Game of Thrones.

I don’t want to talk to much about the pup because I don’t think it’s going to work. Breaks my heart. But it’s not fair to Luna, Luna is super stressed out and… yeah. I’ll post more once we make a decision 🙁

In other news, I NEED MY INTERNATIONAL PACKAGE TO GET HERE. It’s been in Memphis since early last week and been “in transit” to our post office ever since. It better not be lost like all of my fabric samples. Arrrrgh.
