Glinda!

So mom and I have been working on a simplified version of Glinda’s “Popular” dress from Wicked. I keep saying it’s a theater project, but it’s not really for a play – but it’s for a theater related project.

Anyway, we went a few weeks ago and picked out fabric, and mom has been working on the skirt. I’m in charge of the bodice. I sent the lining off with mom for a fitting last week and thankfully it was super close, just needed taken in a tiny bit in one area. Originally I was going to only do 2 layers — one of cotton lining, and one of the outer, hot pink taffeta for the exterior with the ribbon detailing. But then mom gave me all the leftover fabric when she brought the lining back, so I cut a 3rd layer out of the cotton. Not I have an interior bodice piece with the lining sewn in there, and don’t have to worry about putting it into the taffeta layer. Much better.

Here’s the outer shell as of last night:

Once I had the interior assembled, and the exterior shell pieces sewn together, I started layering on the ribbon details:

I pinned each ribbon on and sewed it in place on the machine. If I’d stuck with only 2 layers, I would have had to hand-sew all these on to be able to work around the boning. So glad I had fabric to do 3.

And here’s the upper section done last night:

Really pleased with how it’s looking so far! Tonight, I’m going to do the lower ribbons and I should be able to finish that. Then I’ll attach the exterior to the interior, finish the edges, put the lacing in… since I have excess fabric I’ll probably put a modesty panel in, too. I’m hoping I have enough ribbon leftover for her to use to lace it up.

Here’s mom’s skirt as of last week:

We’re going to attach the upper-most ruffle to the lower edge of the bodice. I’m excited to see how it will all look together.

All this hot pink is making my eyes bleed, though. Seriously my eyes were so sore by the end of last night! LOL

And random art drop… I started on this Ford while watching the Westworld finale. Dunno if I’ll ever finish it so I screencapped it to share at least what I’d done so far.

I realize these reference-based portraits aren’t super interesting… but I enjoy doing them, it gives me something to do while we’re watching tv and it’s sort of relaxing, like colouring a colouring book.

Tomorrow I have a 501st troop! Yay!
