The Deep Clean

I decided last night it was time to clean my sewing room top to bottom… as usual throughout the summer working on Dragoncon costumes things just get stuffed in places and things get disorganized, so it was time to redo!

At first I was just going to clean up the two fabric bins I keep in my office for “current projects” – which at this point, are just receptacles for Dragoncon fabric scraps. But as I started that I realized everything needed done.

My grandma gave me one of her jewelry boxes over the summer, and it’s just been hanging out in my office. I decided to try putting my tv in the corner where the jewelry box was (directly behind my sewing machine – should be more useful for watching while working there, at least until I can get a smaller wall-mounted option in there.) and putting the jewelry box over on the storage chest where the tv was. Then I decided to try to put all my beads and stuff in it. Because I’ve never liked that ugly plastic drawer thing I currently use.

So most of the night was spent sitting in a pile of fabric and trying to find places for all the stuff that was in the plastic bins. I found homes for most of it and was able to get it emptied out.

Then I decided I didn’t want my hats/helmets/tiaras on top of my cabinet anymore. I tried to find a space for them inside the cabinet but I don’t think it’s going to work. Tonight I’m going to go see if I can find some command hooks I can put along the ceiling edge of my office that I can hang them from. That should free up some space and keep them out of harm’s way. Won’t keep them from getting dusty unfortunately, but we can’t have everything.
