Dcon 2014: Marie Antoinette TARDIS costume

Well this one isn’t NEW but it’s updated and I’m really pleased with it!

When I first did the TARDIS dress back in 2011, my plan was to create a couple of other underskirts to wear with it, so I could be different versions of the TARDIS. Well I never got around to that – mostly because I hate painting – until this year.
I had planned on wearing this in the parade, which is why I went through and added bustles to the dress (though then we decided to sit the parade out this year). I made the new underskirt out of white cotton, which I painted. Also added the new hat.

I didn’t want to wear the wig again if I was walking in the parade – and I thought it would be fun to do a hat – but I won’t go too much into the hat since I’ve already talked about it on the blog. My hair/hat combo was inspired by Duchesse de Polignac’s hair in this costume in Marie Antoinette. I used a hairpiece to bolster the back a bit, and slept in curlers the night before to give my hair some body. I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out.

I didn’t wear the necklace I originally made for this costume – instead I wore a necklace my grandma gave me last year. I love it and I’m so pleased to have finally gotten to wear it with a costume.
