MEG! Progress. Finally.

So I finally feel like I make some headway on Meg. I finally figured out the pleats – but I stopped working on them and focused on other parts of the costume.

I started working on the sashes:

I cut the base out of some really nice lavender satin I had in my sash, then layered the chiffon on top.

Of note, the lighting in these pictures is horrible.

More sash progress - I am loving how the outer dress is looking! My Megara costume from May 2014 - in-progress.kelldar.com/portfolio/megaraKelldar.com | My Facebook Page | Tumblr

One of the lightbulbs in my office had gone out. Chase replaced it for me yesterday, and when he went to put the cover back over the lights, I told him to leave it off. Turns out THAT is what was making the yellowish cast on everything in my office, not so much the lightbulbs. It’s like working in a completely different space now.

My aunt’s sewing machine, which is hanging out at my house right now, has a lot of neat decorative stitches. I decided to look at those to see if anything might work instead of buying a trim – and I came across this one!

One of my machines had a great decorative stitch I used on the sashes. My Megara costume from May 2014 - in-progress.kelldar.com/portfolio/megaraKelldar.com | My Facebook Page | Tumblr | Instagram

I did that stitch on the two sashes, and then also on one of the draped pieces.

Sashes are done! I had some neat buttons in my stash I added to the drapes. I just needed closures at this point. My Megara costume from May 2014 - in-progress.kelldar.com/portfolio/megaraKelldar.com | My Facebook Page | Tumblr

Also, in this picture, I’d started tacking down the pleats on the left side.

I found these buttons in my button sash and used them to attach the lower drape-y pieces to the hip sash. The sashes are done now, except for attaching the top one, and putting closures on the botton one.

Yesterday, I worked on the interior. The bodice part of the dress is meant to be lined, with minimal boning. I cut the lining out of both the slipper-y annoying purple material, and also out of some black cotton. I put the boning in that, instead of making a casing like the pattern called for, and got that finished and ironed. Tonight I’m going to make the straps, and get everything pinned together, and hopefully also get the back finished (I’m going to do a lace-up back). I feel like, once I get that done, I can concentrate on the pleats until Momocon.

I still have the wig to do, but I think I’ve got it figured out pretty well – I think I can get it done one night this week.
