the tomb of doom

I actually did make some good headway on sewing this week, but I don’t have a lot to show for it. I put the skirt on pause until I can think about it a little more. I decided to move onto the bodice base instead. I pulled out that old Simplicity look-a-like pattern for the picnic dress, and cut the sleeve and bodice pieces from that. (Sleeves will be later)

Just holding the bodice pieces up to me I could tell they were going to be too short, plus they needed some seam adjustments. I traced them onto some paper and made them longer and created that new side panel out of half of the front and half of the original side. Did a mockup of that, made some changes. Did another mockup from that, made some more changes, I think I ended up with 4 mockups until I was happy with the length, fit and seams.

Friday I got all the layers for the interior cut out. Saturday was busy so I didn’t get to sew – but Sunday I got them all assembled and sewn together.

I did cut the back panels an extra 2 inches longer than my final pattern just so I had enough to play with back there – my final mockup just barely had enough room to overlap, so I wanted to make sure I had some wiggle room. As a result it’s not really fitting the dressform because I just pinned them together back there quickly to get a photo.

Tonight I want to get the boning channels sewn in, and the boning put in. I think I just barely have enough. I may have to order more. Get it tried on and hope it fits right.

Luna was being a little punk yesterday, super needy, came upstairs while I was working on stuff, rolled around on my silk fabric, drooled on it, and then just randomly attacked my arm for whatever reason?? I don’t know if she was overstimulated, or I wasn’t paying enough attention to her or what. No hissing, just pissy. I was wearing a hoodie thank goodness so I just got a couple of little pinpricks from her nails through the hoodie. I chased her off but she came back immediately, sat in my window looking sad, and then came over and sat right next to me while I worked. Pouting.

Saturday was busy. We were up and out of the house by 8:30, went to the grocery, went to the juice bar for a smoothie, went to the coffee place for coffee for Chase, went to a vintage pop up (so much cute stuff but I didn’t buy anything), checked out a furniture store, did our usual sat morning basic household errands, then went out to my parents’ house for Easter lunch.

We were all exhausted after lunch was over. Helped clean up and came home and Chase and I both fell asleep in the living room until 6:30 LOL

Brought home a bunch of leftovers including some of the cookies Ash had made, so Sunday breakfast was a David Lynch breakfast.

Finally took a pic of one of the fabrics I got in LA so I could show folks at lunch. The white is my Leia dress laying underneath it.

Brought a bunch of stuff home from my parents, some photos and another painting Mema did. Dunno where I’m going to put it, there’s no more wallspace in the laundry room where my other Mema paintings are. But spotted this rolled up in the garage and had to grab it – my Buffy musical poster I had on my door for a few years. Don’t know that I’ll do anything with it either, but I wanted it.

This week – finish the bodice interior, get it tried on, make sure all is good before cutting the real bodice fabric. Get embroidery pattern draw up and transferred to stabilizer. Maybe I can start embroidery this weekend and be able to take it to work on during the car trip next week? I’m off friday so hopefully I can get a lot done.

Also need to do a sleeve mockup. Going to use that Simplicity pattern as a starting point – cut one out of scrap and see what needs changed. Hopefully my next chiffon fabric shipment shows up soon, I want to get the sleeves/top cut out soon so I can use whatever is left as more skirt panels.
