A sort-of schedule

So, here is an attempt at a Dragoncon Schedule. Wednesday: Evening - Johanna, for a photoshoot. I will not be wearing this "on the floor" that night. Hoping to go take some shots on the 10th floor (and the elevators before they get too crowded). If anybody else is already in and has a Hunger Games costume and wants to join me, please do! Chase'll be taking photos. Thursday: No ...

Dragoncon round-up

Where I'm at Anne Boleyn: Mostly done. Chase is working on the crown. Finished the jewelry last night. Need to try it on once more and make sure the back panel is sitting correctly, and readjust the buttons that aren't sitting right. And get some insoles for my shoes. Peggy: I need to curl the wig again, but otherwise very happy with it. Still need to finish the belt. Noticed ...

wut

I literally.... LITERALLY cannot wrap my brain around how people are so astounded that I take 12 costumes to Dragoncon. Like, I could probably squeeze in 3-4 more without ever feeling crowded. I mean, I can see the other side, I can see how other people only bring 1 costume or no costumes and spend the entire con standing in line for panels and autographs and what have you. That's not my ...

Wigs, chiffon and migraines

Yesterday I ended up going home at lunch with a bad migraine. Meds weren't doing much of anything I felt pretty puke-y, probably from trying to take too much medicine. Went home, slept, felt a little better after that and tried to get some work done. Today it's more of the same. I think it's sinus stuff that has turned into a migraine. Anyway. I got my garment rack out ...

Things I Miss at DragonCon

Piggy-backing on yesterday's post about changes at DragonCon, today I'd like to look back at some DragonCon things that I miss. 1. The Photo Gauntlet Last time I did the masquerade (2006) it was just contestants standing on a stage with photographers taking photos. I'm guessing that's still the way they do it? It's not nearly as exciting and memorable as the old photo gauntlet. I wrote about it here. Man that ...

Dragoncon grumblings

In which am an old woman and want to complain about things. 1. No, I don't like the new logo. It doesn't say Dragoncon to me. The old logo looked like classic fantasy - a homey, nostalgic look that I think suited Dragoncon very well. I will continue to use the old one where I can. 2. I don't like the new parade route. The one from last year - it was ...

DragonCon Costume List

Costumes I'm (more than likely) bringing to Dragoncon: Donna Unicorn & Wasp: 10% done. If I finish it enough to wear. I'm only focusing on the front panels right now. If I don't get it done enough, I may throw together a Fires of Pompeii Donna instead. Anne Boleyn: 98% done YAY Peggy Carter: 95% done - finishing wig and belt soon Johanna: 15% done. Gotta get cracking! But I have most of my ...

Dragoncon Stories: That One Time Ash Punched a Pregnant Lady

I seem to have less stories in later years, because a lot of the later years run together more. I don't know why that is. We're already onto Dragoncon 2006 stories now. This was my first year I wasn't rooming with the girls - I was staying with my BOYFRIEND who I'd met at Dragoncon the year before ;) I didn't include that as a story because I've already told it numerous ...

Dragoncon Stories: That Time I Made Poor Shoe Choices

Dragoncon 2004 parade - we decided to walk with the LOTR group! This worked out since I had Arwen I wanted to wear, the mums had their hobbit costumes, and Ash got talked into wearing a cape and accompanying me to handle my train. My Arwen costume was very long and very white, so to keep it from getting destroyed by walking on the pavement, I made a drop skirt out ...

Dragoncon Stories: That Time My Math Teacher was There

OH. MY. GOD. Dragoncon 2003, still. The three of us were trying to figure out WHERE we could get Anne McCaffrey's autograph, since Ash and I wanted it for our moms, who were big fans. We couldn't figure out where or when she was signing, so after a bit of wandering around and digging through the guidebooks, we decided to ask. So, here I am, wearing Ruby Heart. Basically a pirate ...
