Wigs, chiffon and migraines

Yesterday I ended up going home at lunch with a bad migraine. Meds weren’t doing much of anything I felt pretty puke-y, probably from trying to take too much medicine. Went home, slept, felt a little better after that and tried to get some work done. Today it’s more of the same. I think it’s sinus stuff that has turned into a migraine.

Anyway. I got my garment rack out to start pulling dragoncon costumes out. Luna thought it was an amazing toy just for her. She was flipping all over it.

She settled down and rested with me on the couch after that.

I worked on my Marie Antoinette hat, which I’m pretty happy with except my feather. I bought some blue feathers last year that I was going to wear in my wig with my white one, but didn’t like they looked so I never used them. I pulled one out to put in the hat, and I like it, except it’s not the right blue. It’s really clashing with my other blues – I’ve got a straight up royal blue in the ribbons and a deep blue edging on purple in my flowers, and then these feathers are like a turquoise-y blue. So I’m going to look for either a royal blue feather or a white feather this weekend when running errands to replace it with.

I checked over Shadowcat last night since I’m bringing her back to Dragoncon! My first superhero costume from my first Dragoncon is making a reappearance, haha. The tights are shot. I guess tights just aren’t meant to last for 12 years. I tried washing them up, but even before that they had gotten really loose and the elastic in the waist is pretty much gone. So I’m just going to buy new ones. Also making a new mask.
Checked out the top and it was ripped right at the spot where the ties meet at the waist, so I trimmed it up and hemmed so it at least looks finished. I’ll be wearing my old Belle wig with – I got that out, brushed it (and discovered NINE hair clips hidden throughout it. So that’s where they all went) and fluffed it a little. I want it to be big and fluffy like 80s Shadowcat. I really wish I had time to make a Lockheed but alas.

I also started playing with my Johanna wig.

I originally bought this wig for Peggy - but it came and it was too dark. It became my Johanna wig instead. Worked out pretty well.I was a shoulder length wig I styled up into a sort of curly faux-hawk. It was nearly done here.Kelldar.com | My Facebook Page | Tumblr | Instagram

I’m fairly pleased with it. This was all just clipped on to see how it was going to work. Tonight I’ll go back and tweak it and sew/pin everything down. Last year for Trillian I bought a small clip-on ponytail with ended up being TOO small, so I never used it – I pulled that out and sewed it to the top of the wig which created the volume I needed. Yay for reusing things!
I think my piece of hair hanging down the front is too big, so I need to rein that in – I think I need to separate some of the clumps into smaller pieces to fill some of the gaps, especially towards the back, and some of the pieces may need trimmed so they’re not so large. Then some fluffing, teasing and sew everything into place.
I guess I’m going to have to have 2 wig boxes this year instead of one, I only have space in my main one for 2 wig heads, but I’ll need 3 (Johanna, Megara, Belle), unless I decide not to bring Belle. As of right now she’s coming but I don’t know when I’ll wear it.

Then I messed with the dress a little, but not a lot. I went back and added boning to the back, and eyelets up the back for lacing it up, which changed the way the whole thing sat and I had to re-do some of the pleats. I got them repinned and started the bottom section.

Next set of pleats/ruffles - on the hip. This section was harder than the other two - I had to redo it once after I realized it wasn't sitting right once it was on a real body.Kelldar.com | My Facebook Page | Tumblr | Instagram

Tonight, I’ll get that sewn down, get the back pieces on and make my undershirt.
