oh my god its tuesday

I totally spaced on posting yesterday. I was just so excited to get back to work on the Padme project LOL

It’s been a busy week. Last friday was my parents 50th anniversary!! Whoa! But let me just go through everything from the beginning. Or as close as I can get.

Finished this little puzzle. Gonna glue it together. I have a Star Trek puzzle the same size, I thought framing them and hanging them next to each other would be cute.

That made me think oh I want to do another puzzle, that was so nice, so I got out another one, but immediately ran into my least favourite part of puzzles (the sorting) and kinda stalled out.

LOOK at these precious Padme Pocket pins from Fuzzball Flair! I need to go get another embroidery hoop to display them, I’ve now outgrown the 3 I have for my Padme/Leia pins!

Started trying to wrap my head around this again.

During the week last week, I restyled my Seven wig.

It was a mess. It needed brushed and recurled in general, but I also felt like it was too big and clunky on me.

Straightened the previous curls out, then thinned it a LOT.

Recurled. I haven’t put it on me yet but I think it’ll look better than previous. Chase 3d printed new face pieces for me, so I’m really hoping we can reshoot it this weekend and then get all of the backdrop stuff taken down.

Like I said friday was my parents’ 50th anniversary!

But I didn’t see them that day because we had Dune tickets that night… picked up Kevy, met Ash and Gabe for pizza then enjoyed the movie.

Saturday morning we got up and ran out to go pick up some goodies we bought…

First up this cute midcentury lamp, which DOES still work though I haven’t attempted to plug it in yet. I have it set up on the side table by the couch for now. I should take a pic of it there instead of posting this of it strapped into the backseat, but I’m too lazy to go downstairs.

Also got this clock! It’s missing its hands but Chase thinks he can fix it.

Saturday afternoon I recorded a couple of videos and the one I posted that day – talking about my Haunted Mansion dress – went viral. Haven’t had a post do that well in years, and back when I did have stuff do these numbers regularly, it was usually just a costume video without a ton of questions. This one got a ton of questions and comments that needed responding to.

First up was a ton of people either telling me it was on backwards (it’s not) or asking what it looks like backwards. I did take some pics to entertain the question.

Looks kinda ok with the back on the front though doesn’t fit over the chest all that well.

The front as the back does not work because of the bust darts. You get weird fabric lumps.

I also just don’t understand why anyone would want the most interesting visual element of this dress design hidden in the back.

I currently have the word “backwards” on my comment blacklist and now I’m just deleting backwards comments as they get stuck in my comment filter.

The second was people telling me how to finish my seams. Because this was done for that speed challenge, I didn’t finish the inside seams of the skirt, and the fabric sheds in a weird cobwebby sort of way, and it gets stuck to the front panel and I have to pick them off everytime I have the dress out. So I made sure to explain what the white bits I was picking off were, so I didn’t get 200 comments asking “what are those white threads” or whatever. Instead i got 200 comments of people explaining sergers, overlock stitches, and french seams to me.

And then there were just tons of general questions like “what pattern is this” (its in the caption), “where can i buy this” (google is free), “where is the fabric from” (shop disney), “would this work with X” (yes, no, maybe…), “it would look better if you did X” (well you can do that for yours)

The comment deluge was overwhelming. I was getting anxious just picking up my phone.

I just love having my work being judged by thousands of strangers based on a project I made in 4 hours and not any of the dozens of costumes I’ve spent months on. This is why I prefer to just stay in my own little circle of followers on tiktok.

ANYWAY.

Saturday night we had a big family dinner for my parents’ anniversary!

They are so cute.

Kevin was concerned about the open flame.

Sunday I finally got back to work on Honeymoon Leia.

I got the collar sewn on – it didn’t turn out exactly like I want, but I don’t have enough of this purple left to recut, so it is what it is. I think if I just tack the sides down like I have it here, it will look the way I want.

Got the lining sewn in, and got the sleeves attached.

I think I may take the sleeves partially enough – just enough to get to the shoulder seams, which are kinda just sorta a little big. They’re almost making like a rainbow shape across my shoulders – fine on each end but raised up in the center. So if I can just open it back up enough to take up the center of each that’d be good.

Then I can finally attach all these skirt panels, but the zipper in and it’s done? Except the belt and jewelry. I don’t know what I want to make the belt out of, Chase is 3d modeling the jewelry pieces.

Sunday night we went to Kevin’s for his dad’s bday dinner. So it was a very busy weekend. It was nice to just stay home yesterday!

I wore my Star Wars dress to my parents’ dinner, and had to take a pic of conjoined twin C3P0 on the side seam to show you all. He’s my fav part.

Anyway that’s all for this week. NEXT week I’m going to try to update and add new pages for the midcentury project in the art section. No promises.
