Virgo Season is in FULL EFFECT. And i’ve decided i’m just gonna stay in virgo season for the rest of my life. It’s a state of mind.
Since i posted so late last week I don’t have much to post about this week.
This is one of the few things i bought at Dcon. I was thinking it was the ONLY thing because I’d completely forgotten the other things I’d got by the time we got home LOL But i also got Megan Lara’s beautiful Padme print and a turner from Famore. I was really excited to unpack and re-discover those LOL
I took it easy last week. I did unpack, as in, I opened my bin at the bottom of the stairs and anytime either Chase or I were going up with nothing in our hands, we’d each grab a few things to take them upstairs. Everything was up by Friday. It was nice doing it in stages.
Luna typically does not sleep in the bedroom with us, but usually after we’ve gone for a few days, she will. She did that last week but added a new twist – after she got up and had breakfast, she started going BACK to bed. She’d bang on the door til I let her back in, and then stay in bed after I got up for work.
She monitored my sewing room clean up this weekend.
i had big plans to totally clean out my costume closet, reorganize, and get the new stuff all put away this weekend. Friday night I got all the bins out, but then Saturday we went out to run errands and ended up being gone all day, so i didn’t get much of anything done that day.
I got these cute new gloves! And a new pair of boots, but I don’t have pics of them yet.
Also went to spirit and got these Haunted Mansion stretching portrait banners, and a table runner. I saw these before dragoncon and saved some of my spending money to come home and get them. I’m really surprised by how big the banners are – I didn’t read the measurements and expected them to be half the size they are. Kinda tempted to hang them outside on the front porch since they seem to be that outdoor flag material and I think they might be safe on the porch.
Saturday Chase actually made me a Sims family. He made me food Network Stars LOL here’s Gordon Ramsey starting a fire and Guy Fieri putting it out.
I made them a house where they each have a kitchen, but no bathroom, bedrooms, etc. They’re all on a quest to become a master chef. So far they aren’t doing very well, but as they make money in their little culinary starter jobs I’m buying them more things, they have a bunkbed and a bush they can now pee in outside LOL
Sunday i did finally dig into the closet.
One of the big things I wanted to do was to get the shoes out of the bins. Not ALL the shoes, if they’re super specific shoes that can’t be reused with another costume, they stayed in the bin, but i was able to probably get like half ot hem out of the bins? That gave me room to put away all of the excess pieces of costume I had folded up in the 9 cubby storage shelf, plus most of the new stuff. I’m now moving the shoes to either the bottom of my dragoncon bin for storage (the older stuff I don’t think I’ll need anytime soon – my old Leia boots, silk spectre, susan sto helit, etc), or into the 9 bin cubby if it’s recent shoes or basic shoes like my black knee high boots.
So i’ve talked about my issues with pleather in the past and the one old pleather costume I still have that i haven’t tackled is ruby heart. The entire costume is pleather. it’s been down in the bottom of one of these bins since I started this current storage system 10 years ago. I KNOW it’s in terrible shape by this point, i’ve been teasing the last year that i’ll open it up on camera and we’ll all live the trauma of it falling apart in my hands together. But I forgot all about that as i was going through bins and stumbled across it.
I had to get it out and at least wrap it in a garbage bag to protect everything else that was in the bin – the outer layer of pleather flaking off is sticking to EVERYTHING. But as I did that, I realized the white ruffled shirt was still stuck inside of it, sleeves through the armholes – I probably had it on the dressform at some point and just pulled the whole thing off together and folded it up. So to keep the shirt from getting anymore damaged, i pulled it out and…
What the actual fuck. Why does this thing look like it’s been a trash dump being peed on by every kind of rodent imaginable?? Look at all those stains all over it, it was NOT like that when I had it out last, much less when I packed it up, I would’ve noticed. All I can guess is that this staining is from the pleather breaking down and this being stuck inside it? So weird and so gross. (It also kinda looks like water stains but it hasn’t been exposed to water at all, it’s been in temp controlled storage it’s whole life and nothing else in the same bin had the same damage.)
I really want to try to oxi-clean this thing i see I can restore it. I know the jacket will never be salvageable… but i’m not ready to throw it away yet.
Anyway, i got to the end of my clean up, got most of the bins put away. I was left with a handful of homeless costumes – namely Rebels and Training Leia, but all I had left was a few of the half size bins which they didn’t fit into completely. So I gotta run to target and get one more tall bin.
Next up is reorganizing the hanging pieces, then moving onto the stuff in the attic space.
I’ve got several projects I want to get started on soon, but I want to finish the clean out/clean up first. Major thing is I need to clean out my fabric bins. I’ve got too much, scraps needs to get tossed, i want to donate some stuff, cull down the hoard.
