Yes, we took Saturday off costume work and did a double feature. We started with breakfast at the Liquor Store:

Then off to see Oppenheimer on the imax:

Chase got a leg cramp right as they were starting the Trinity test. He had to awkwardly try to get out of the aisle, then was stuck standing in the hall for the rest of the movie because of the cramp.
I can’t blame him, I also found the seats to be uncomfortable after about an hour and half.

In between we had an early dinner at a new (to us) place that was really cool! Felt like we were at disney world.

A quick stop at the fabric store for some stuff I needed, dropped my purchases off at the house, fed the cat, and then off to see Barbie:

Really enjoyed both movies. Very different so I can’t say which I liked better – but for rewatchability’s sake, it would be Barbie.

But winner of the day is the fact that they released the Strange New Worlds/Lower Deck crossover episode early?? We came home from Barbie and watched it – it was perfect, I loved it.

Anyway let’s get to sewing updates.

First up I mostly finished Bail. I thought all I had left to do was tack the front “sleeve” section into place, but when Chase tried it on he asked if I was going to do the trim… so now I’m doing a trim on the neck and front edge LOL

My knitorious fabric order from May arrived! AHH it’s so cute! I got 2 yards of the knit that I’m probably going to use for my 2 piece romper pattern. And then I also got 2 yards of the cotton that I’ll eventually use for a dress.

My fabric for my Leia tunic also arrived, got the dye station set up…

It’s not a huge change from the original – which is why I was hoping I wouldn’t have to dye it (or anything else this summer) but alas, it was just slightly too light so I had to throw it in some tan dye.

Friday this arrived! So exciting.

Then Friday night I worked on my Seven of Nine glove:

Originally I was going to use a dish glove, but the hot glue wouldn’t stick to it. So I found these old backup gloves I used for my tightrope walker when I wore it to MNSSHP in 2016 (didn’t want to wear my leather gloves to magic kingdom…) Drew the design on with a pen…

Covered the design in hot glue and then a layer of black paint

Then did another layer of glue and then a layer of iron grey over everything

Then cut away the excess fabric.
Still need to do another layer of a lighter grey plus some copper in places. It’s not perfect but it’ll do. Hot glue art is not my forte.

Big mail call Saturday: My Seven wig and face prosthetics, my Leia gloves, Chase’s Lazlo wig, cravat and shirt, and my Scully blazer.

Since the Scully blazer was finally here, I tried it all on Sunday morning. The blazer is a little big but I’m just going to take it up. Also tried my wig on with it and decided it looked like a helmet. It’s too long and too thick, so I trimmed off a couple of inches, and then took the thinning shears to it. After all that I need to recurl it, so I haven’t taken a new pic yet.

After that I had big plans to tackle Flashback Leia. I had the entire day to myself, a whole bag of everything I needed… I decided to start with the pants. Got my pattern out, got the pieces cut, and then realized I didn’t have thread that matched for doing the quilted panels. So I went to Michaels, got thread, came back and I don’t know what happened after that, the heat combined with the leftovers I had for lunch? But I felt sick and dizzy and gross so I laid down for a bit. It passed but wasted a lot of time.

Got back to it and then couldn’t figure out how to make the perfect triangles with the quilting lines.

I got REALLY frustrated and mad at my stupid brain that can’t do math. Wasted a lot of time and a lot of fabric. I finally went downstairs and drew it up in photoshop on my computer, but then didn’t have a good way to trace it – tried tracing it on my laptop screen but couldn’t get the sizing right. We do have a printer but my computer isn’t hooked up to it, so I waited for Chase to get home so he could print it from his computer.

Finally he got home, redrew my guidelines for me and got it printed.

Taped it to the window and traced it onto my backing fabric with a ruler and chalk.

Got it all stitched on…

And here’s one panel done:

Both panels are done now, both pinned onto the front of the pants. Last night I pinned the pants together and tried them on just to make sure it was all positioned correctly, and then I quit working for the night. Tonight I’ll get the quilted patches sewn in place and the pants assembled.

It was just frustrating between not feeling good and not being able to wrap my head around the geometry to draw the guides manually. Both things got me behind, I had wanted to finish the pants in the morning and then maybe do the boot covers the rest of the day. But oh well, I’m still ahead of everything.

Let’s do the to-do list:

Rebels Leia:
New belt came in! Need to assemble it
paint accessories
attach
make hair bun (hair for that came in too)

Nadja:
finish sewing on sash (STILL)
test vampire fangs. dunno if they’re gonna work with non-standard teeth

Breha:
Paint buckle/attach
trim bottom of pants
(I finished the back of the belt)

Seven of Nine:
finish glove
trim wig
add snaps to top

Scully:
recurl wig
take up blazer
find new id badge

Bail:
sew trim on edge of cape
tack front edge of “sleeve”

Vader::
Make inner robe (waiting on him to be done with the chest panels)

Beefsquatch:
install new zippers and shorter straps

Jedi Leia::
finish assembling pants
make upper boot sections
cut and assemble tunic
make panels for sleeves
paint belt
make belt buckle

I really should print this off and start doing all of the “little” things that I could knock out easily but don’t think about til I’m doing this because I’m focused on the big things…
