help me wanda

First off I loved WandaVision. I grew up watching classic tv shows like the Dick Van Dyke show, Bewitched, etc and I loved having that aesthetic mixed in with Marvel. I can’t wait to see how it all unravels.

Also, looking forward to WandaVision is the only thing that has held me together for the last few months. I’m glad I liked it LOL.

Second… it’s another week with no sewing or really any kind of fun updates. I had a migraine off and on all last week so I let myself be lazy. Even though this weekend I told myself, I’m going to start testing out a technique I want to use for Liberty Dies Padme… I’ve been saying I’m going to do it for literal months and I still haven’t. So this weekend was going to be IT. But it wasn’t. Again.

I’m stuck on Chase’s Chip jacket because the ribbed knit we got for the waistband last year had the ribbing going the wrong direction. Had to order a new one and it’s coming from China so I guess I’m just going to put Chip away for another month. Outer shell & lining are assembled. All that was left was waistband, cuffs and collar. I should be able to finish it quickly once it arrives at least.

So I got back onto my Dale hat. I started it last year and decided the buckram I had on hand was not stiff enough and set it aside. So Friday evening Chase and I went down to the Joann across the boarder in MS (our location here didn’t have any “extra firm” buckram according to the website) and picked up a couple of yards so I could get back to work on it. The area where that Joann is is a fun area, there’s lots of stores, including a Books a Million which we don’t have here.

We bought a disney bookbook and otherwise just had fun looking around.

We had picked out a local italian place nearby to pick-up dinner to take home. When we went to punch in the address to go over there, we discovered they were closed on Friday nights. WTF. LOL. So we decided to just pick up pizza from MPC… called in the order and it would be an hour wait. Um no. So we kinda drove around looking for something to eat… eventually we landed on this new taco place… because the taco place was also selling grilled cheeses from one of our fav food trucks (the grilled cheese food truck is currently out commission but selling out of the taco place for now). You could order from one or the other or both! So we both ended up getting grilled cheeses and tacos LOL. And we liked the tacos so much we went back the next night and just got more tacos.

Saturday day I spent reorganizing some of our kitchen cabinets, our pantry, and the kitchen “closet.”

We have a really weird pantry situation in our house. We have a pantry, which is so deep I can’t even reach my hand all the way to the back to touch the wall. It also only has 4 shelves, and then a huge empty area at the bottom to the floor. We stack empty food gizmo boxes down there (ie, the box the air fryer came in, etc).

And right next to it is a coat closet. The previous owners did actually use it as a coat closet, it’s got 2 shelves and a rod for hangers and that’s it. We don’t use it as a coat closet, we use the closet by the front door. Right now the closet is just where we keep paper towels, empty plastic bags, and a big stack of curtains and table clothes.

You can kinda see them here in this photo from right after we moved in – the brown doors right next to the white door left of the window.

It really does not function well. We have been trying to figure out if we could just pull the wall between them down and make it one big pantry. I don’t know that it would be big enough to be a walk-in pantry once you put shelving in. But there’s got to be some way to making it more useful.

But anyway I cleaned them up and out, and then also cleaned up the lower cabinets too. The lower cabinets were full of tupperware, candles, vases, and my Mema mushroom canisters. I moved the candles and vases into the cabinet in our living room and also pulled out the mushroom canisters (more on that in a minute) and moved all the cooking utensils and baking items that were scattered in the pantry and closet to the cabinets. It looks a lot better now.

These are my Merry Mushroom canisters – my maternal grandma (Mema) made them for my paternal grandma (Mama Gin) in the 70s. (As I understand it, you bought them unfinished, painted them and had them fired so sort of like those paint-a-pottery places you can go to today. We have a ton of ceramic stuff my grandma made in that era!) I have a set of 5 canisters, plus a butter tray, a watering can, 3 teacups and a creamer cup. I used to have them displayed at our old house – where we had empty space between the top of our cabinets and the ceiling. We don’t have same space at the current house. So I had nowhere to put them and they’ve just been sitting in the bottom cabinets.

So I decided to clean the canisters up and bring them to my sewing room. Going to put random stuff in them and put them on top of my white shelf.

So that was my saturday.

Sunday I went out to my parents house to sit with Mama Gin while my parents took a break. She was sleeping the first hour I was there, so I played some animal crossing, and then got back to work on my Dale hat, which I’d brought with me.

Got the new buckram insert cut and the fabric basted back on. Then went to see what the next step was and it was… “stitch your millinery wire around the edge.” Umm. What millinery wire? Literally nowhere on the envelope in the “notions needed” section did it call for millinery wire, no gauge/length listed anywhere. UGGGGGHHHH. I found some on etsy that would at least be delivered by the end of January. So putting that aside again for now.

Mama Gin woke up and we hung out for a while. She showed me how to do the waltz.

And now here’s a bunch of other random photos from the week.

This is the box the new display form came in. I set it out for Luna to play in, then taped it back together and cut a hole in the front, put a blanket in it, for her to have a little fort. She’s only gotten in it a few times so it’ll probably be tossed soon.

New pin!

When I pulled out the unfinished Chip and Dale pieces, I also found my knitorious fabric star wars yard I got last year. I just dunno what to do with it. Got a lot of good suggestions on instagram Saturday. I only have a yard so it’s tricky. Since it’s a knit I wanted to make it something comfy and everyday-wearable. I’m leaning towards a camisole style top. I feel like the pattern, the fabric, and the amount of fabric I have lends itself more towards a camisole than much else.

I wasn’t going to work on it anytime soon but now that I’m stuck on everything else, I may just make something out of this week.

Had to run to target last night and saw this puzzle:

Only 500 pieces so wouldn’t take long to put together and I like the art well enough to glue it together at the end and put it on a wall (I want to do gallery wall in my WFH office and this’ll be a good one to include.)

Also it was this kind of week last week.

Come back next week to see what else I haven’t done lately.
