It’s the rare second post in a week but I decided it was time to do a big ole’ Dragoncon post so it’s not taking up room in my next weekly post.
1. Dr Crusher! NEW and almost done! YAY! Seriously I got my lab coat material yesterday, it looked great, no need for dye, got it washed and dried and got it about halfway assembled last night. Should be able to finish it tonight. Then I just have those last few things on my suit to do (one more hook and eye, elastic, shoulder pads), and that’s done.
Still hunting for a wig. Got a few things saved, hopefully ordering one this weekend. I actually asked for a quote for a custom wig from a company — wasn’t planning on actually going that direction but I was on their site looking at inventory and thought I’d get a ballpark. They came back and said “we cannot create this wig for you.” Um. Ok. Maybe they somehow knew I wasn’t going to go forward with it?! LOL
2. Hera from Lore Olympus. NEW!
This one is still on the fence because I haven’t bought anything for it yet. So might not happen… but probably will. I’m doing a big wig order this weekend including that one so once that happens the likelihood of me finishing it greatly increases.
Been keeping an eye out for fabric and I HAVE bought a pattern that might work as a starting point. Will need some alterations. I did buy a fabric swatch from mood that was neat looking… and $50/yard LOL. Thankfully it was way too sparkly so it’s not going to happen. I just need to find something dark blue with some texture. I think otherwise I’ll probably use pants I already have. May make or modify existing gloves. Need to buy boots. And wig like I mentioned. Have my body paint picked out. Great thing about this one is I only have to worry about the face.
3. Padme Lake Dress THE FINAL VERSION! NEW, of course!
I cut out my pattern for the underdress the other night. I have my underdress fabric. Will be ordering outer fabric this weekend, along with a wig.
Keeping the underdress spandex like previous versions. I know that’s not what the actual one is but the spandex was SO comfy and looked so great I wanted to use it again. I’m using a different pattern for the dress this time… it’s pretty similar to the first one but I bought this other one a while back for this and thought I’d give it a go. I’m only using the front and back panel pieces, will probably make a facing for the sides/backs and will also be adding extra panels from just above the knees down to make it fuller.
Using silk chiffon for the outer dress. Making new necklace and armbands, new full wig with new hairbands and new shoes. Not reusing anything from previous versions. Since I made the last one in 2008 we have a TON more detail shots of this costume from it finally being displayed with one of the recent exhibits… exciting!! And makes me realize how wrong my previous versions were!
4. Belle library dresss! NEW!
I’ve got this started! Underskirt and bum roll is mostly done… I got my fabric for the stripey part last week. Though my fabric is not stripey. I’m going to have to do the stripeys myself. Dunno how yet. I was initially considering sewing on ribbons after getting the panels cut. But trying to find ribbons that look right is proving to be a challenge; I don’t want satin or shiny. I may end up painting them. Have to play it by ear.
I’ll be reusing my wig from Georgian Belle. Probably reusing the corset, too. Been keeping my eye out for shoes to mod.
5. Jedi Leia! NEW! Even though I’ve already worn this once and it’s done still counting it as new.
Kinda considering not taking the lightsaber to dcon. It’s my old efx Luke lightsaber and I don’t want to damage it… it’s 14 years old at this point! I means she wears this outfit plenty without it. Maybe take my old e11 to pose with instead.
6. Carrie Fisher returning from last year. No updates or changes except Gary needs to have some of his wool reattached.
7. Crait Leia, UPDATED! Will have updated wig and outer cloak.
I’m so close to being done with this, I just need to buckle down and finish it this weekend. The new cloak anyway. I just need to finish getting the sleeves on and get it hemmed.
I bought dye for the wig like a month ago but so far haven’t done anything with it. Maybe I’ll do that this weekend, too. Should be interesting, I’ve never dyed a wig before, only sharpie method.
8. Donna Noble. AGaIN.
I’m so tired of bringing this costume. LOL. But DAVID TENNANT! After this I’m not bringing it anymore!! The shoes suck!
Although I did think the other day how I should have brought a gold paint pin and had catherine tate sign the inside of the capelet last year. Kinda thinking of doing that with david tennant this year. But if I do that then I have to get Catherine to sign at some point too… (but if she comes back and I have that opportunity, I’ll probably just BRING this dress to her and have her sign it, not wear it again).
Anyway, only wearing this for Tennant photo-op. Hopefully. Fingers crossed.
Other Stuff
And then I may also bring B-52s Kate, depending on how much space I have, I really wanted to wear it again with the shortened wig but this year is shaping up to have a lot of wigs that are going to need to be packed carefully so she may not make the cut. (I think Crusher and Hera can probably travel flat. Lake dress and Crait Leia will need to be on wigheads, and possibly Belle library too. I dont need to have to squeeze in another wighead…)
And the girls and I are planning a silly group that is not important and is just going to be some bought stuff.
Arriving late wednesday. Like technically thursday morning. Staying thru monday night.
At the moment I’m not beholden to any shoots or groups. Hoping to keep it that way and keep my schedule open to just run around and have fun. Will probably go to whatever Padme shoot is planned (haven’t seen anything about it yet, but I’m sure it’ll come up later). Will probably do the Lore Olympus meet up on Sunday I saw on fb, since that’s where Hera will get the most recognition. Not bringing anything superhero so not doing the SCF shoots but may drop by to say hello to folks. Not doing the parade.
And as in years past, I have no set schedule anymore. I used to make schedules like : Thursday afternoon I’ll be wearing THIS, Thursday evening THIS, Thursday night THIS. Yeah I’m too old for that now. Now I wear what I want when I want. Although I do kinda make a basic schedule in my head, but it’s just a guideline and I rarely stick to it.
Thankfully almost everything I’m bringing this year is comfortable. Nothing under a 5 on my comfort scale. And nothing super long, no wings. I’m ALL ABOUT IT.
Goals the rest of this week/this weekend:
1. Get Crait wig dyed and restyled
2. Finish Crait cloak
3. Finish Crusher jacket
4. Finish Crusher uniform
5. Cut lake dress underdress
6. Order wigs
7. Order lake dress outer fabric
8. Prewash Belle cotton
And then I really need to focus on house stuff so not overloading myself this weekend with sewing. We are having a shower here at the end of the month (my cousin is getting married!) and I need to get moving on stuff! I mean the downstairs is basically done at this point, just some straightening and little touches. Upstairs is another story – we need to get Kevin’s room and the guestroom organized and looking better. Anyway.
