i got the black lung, pop

No it’s not con crud. I’ve never really gotten con crud except that one time I came back from WSMI in Columbus sick in 2006.
But the weather is changing and I’m still worn out from dragoncon so I feel like death warmed over. I slept a lot this weekend. Vague aches and pains in the back of my head/neck.

I had wanted to swim after work today but storms came through Saturday night and dropped the temps. So too cold for swimming today. Hopefully it warms back up enough to get in a couple more swims this weekend.

I DID get all my dragoncon stufF “unpacked” and did some laundry, straightened up the den. Most of my costume stuff was just taken out of the bin and dumped in the closet, so I still have to go thru and organize it and get it hung up, but got my bin emptied so it can be stored.

I did mention in my last post that Chase is watching Star Trek TNG with me, right? I’m so excited. We are 3 eps in.

Saturday we went and got breakfast, ran some errands, came home, swam, stayed in that night. That’s when those big storms came thru and they were pretty intense.

And look at this rarity that happened Sat night:

Luna pretty much always naps with me, but she usually curls up next to my legs. Saturday night I was laying on the couch listening to a podcast on my phone and she curled up next to me with her head on my arm. She stayed like that for an hour! And she never bit me! I didn’t want to move. LOL.

Sunday we went to church and then to lunch with my parents. Mom brought me my mail!

I got my art from Dawn!! I saw her post this original of the Post-Senate dress before dragoncon… I’d kinda been waiting to buy anything until after we finished getting moved. But of course I had to have that one. And she threw in some of her prints too!! I cannot wait to get these framed.

Speaking of moving, we did go look at a house last week.
It was… interesting. It’s in a neighborhood we really like, an older neighborhood where the houses were built in the 60s-70s and are definitely NOT cookie cutter, and it’s still well taken care of. This house was 6 bedrooms (!!) with a huge deck in the back, gorgeous windows in the front, huge fireplace, and coming in below what most of the houses we’d seen other houses in that neighborhood come up for. Took my uncle with us so he could tell us everything that was wrong with it LOL

Man if it were a different story I’d have been all over it. I loved the quirkiness of it. It had HUGE and numerous closets for being an older house. A mother-in-law suite with a full second kitchen and bathroom – that would have been my sewing room. And weird little upstairs nook of a bedroom with 2 big closets and its own bathroom – that would have been Kevin’s room. Then 2 more full bedrooms. One weird tiny room next to the master that they were counting as a bedroom, but if we’d bought it, would have looked at knocking down the walls and connecting it to the master to make the master bigger.

But, too much wrong with it. My uncle said we’d have to get it for way, way cheaper to make it worth it, because it needed a lot of work. Plus the cost of just living it – lots of maintenance.
So, I’m sad and now everything I look at is boring. LOL.
But we do have a few other houses we’ve saved to look at it, so more house-viewing is in the future.

Some Dragoncon pics!
I miss the days when you could find most con photos on flickr or just by searching on google. Now everybody uploads to facebook or Instagram and photos are IMPOSSIBLE to find. So I don’t really do post-con picture searching anymore… I rely on people to tag me. (Which reminds me, I need to go through all my business cards I got/saved…)

Here’s a gorgeous shot of my Amidala from The Truth Renaissance:

And OMG I love this one of my Leia from Wanderlust Boudoir by TK Photography:

Like seriously that makes me feel better about the costume.

And the official shots from Patrick Sun of the SCF Marvel shoots turned out so good.

Ok now let’s talk future projects in the pipeline.

1. TLJ Luke for Chase
I’m soooo excited for him to do this. He’s looking at just buying and modding one from one of these cosplay sites, which I don’t think would be a bad place to start. I can mod the pieces and remake them as needed, or as we have time to upgrade.

2. Finish my ANH Leia
This got put on the backburner with Dragoncon stuff/moving. I need to get the dress out and finish the updates to it (redo bottom hem, interface collar especially), and then get started on my new belt. I’m also going to need new hairpieces since now I’m back to red…

3. Update Crait Leia
First thing is going to be the wig. I’m going to play around with the current one a bit before I tackle my custom wig. And while I’m adding the interfacing to the collar of ANH Leia, I may pop the back of the Crait Leia collar open and add some to the back of that collar, too.

4. New Belle Library Dress
YESS I’ve been waiting to get to this for months now.

I drew up exactly what I want to do… since my 2012 ballgown was vaguely 18th century inspired, and then my Something There dress definitely was, I wanted to continue the trend. And much like the Something There dress, I’m just smashing up a Belle look with something non-fandom I wanted to do anyway. I want to do it as a zone front gown with green-on-green stripes, a darker green bodice/stomacher and pale green skirt/sleeves. My main influence in shape and look is a dress in the Philly Museum of Art dated 1785-1793; it even has the little sheer “oversleeves” that I can use as a nod to Belle’s puff sleeves.

I’ve looked high and low online for months now for a green on green stripe. And I haven’t found anything I like. I’m probably going to end up doing it on spoonflower which sucks because it seems so basic. But I absolutely want that green on green stripe… it’s the whole reason I wanted to do this style of dress. Going to keep looking a bit longer before I look at spoonflower tho.

5. Boushh upgrades
I got my new helmet last year and haven’t done anything with it. I need to dig my Boushh pieces out and figure out what needs upgraded/remade. I know for sure I’m going to update the pants – I want to line them in a cotton and add a better waistband to make them more comfortable. May redo or rebuild my boots. Cummerbund is a full redo because the old one doens’t fit. Will probably rethink my undertunic. Outer tunic, gloves and cape can probably stay but need more weathering.

6. Pawnee Goddesses
A little project for dcon next year. Just fun comfy costumes.

7. Loyalist Commitee Padme
So as I said a couple of months ago I got the burnout velvet to redo this. Other than that, I haven’t given it a lot of thought yet. I’m hoping to do a big patreon post on it soon – breakdown my old costume, revisit the original costume, plan the new one.

8. Ariel & Ursula
So originally Ash and I were going to do Ursula for her for this past Dragoncon. But with moving and everything we decided to put it off a year.
So since we have another year, I decided to FINALLY do an Ariel costume to go with her Ursula we’ll be doing next year. But I want to do it a specific way.

I’m changing the silhouette a bit. And I haven’t decided on the trims/embellishments yet, so those aren’t really drawn in (or are just kinda guessed at) – those are things I’ll figure out as I go. I do know the specific tone of pink I want for the dress and so far I did find it in a silk satin that was $65/yard. HAHAHAHA no.
But that’s about all I know at the moment – the silhouette, the fabric tones. I’ll figure more out in the next few weeks. Belle is first tho.

Ariel edit: I just now saw that a costumer I really admire is also doing an Ariel in this sort of style soon… which normally wouldn’t bother me (i mean there’s a gazillion Ariels out there), but it looks like we had really similar ideas and I don’t want to look like I’m copying. So now I dunno. I’m a bit bummed tbh. So I may just go forward and try to make mine different. Will have to see.

And now, I need another nap.
