Happy New Year!

GUESS WHAT! My blog is 20 years old now. It’s in college. My earliest blog posts were late 97/early 98 and the oldest post I was able to track down to reupload was from January 8, 1998.
I think next week I will do a big post about it for its birthday!

So anyway, this weekend was rather lazy. Mostly because it was SO cold. Like seriously it was in single digits?! It’s never that cold here. So I didn’t want to go anywhere if we didn’t have to.

We did go see a movie — Thursday night I met the girls and we went to see the Greatest Showman. OMG I LOVED IT. I had the soundtrack downloaded before I was even out of the theater. I went home and told Chase I have to see it again!! So we went again Sunday (with me wearing a hoodie, my biggest winter jacket, gloves, and a snuggie…) and he liked it too. I don’t care how inaccurate to history it is (story or costume wise) it was just so much fun.
I kinda want to see it again — but I also want to see The Shape of Water, and I want to see TLJ on the imax before they switch it out for something else. Choices…

This was my fav costume from it:

Doesn’t mean I’m gonna make it. But I’m tempted.

Friday we were both off work so we ran some errands. And my Her Universe Hoth vest came!

My Christmas present to myself LOL

And I got these ornaments on clearance at Target:

OH! And I got my “second Christmas” from Chase – some of my gifts didn’t come before Christmas so I got them on Thursday.

(I apparently only took pics on my IG story and I can’t find the first one…) I got a dustbuster for my office which I’ve been wanting for ages!! I never knew I’d be so excited about a hand-held vacuum. And a cute basket for my bike! That will make riding so much easier, I won’t have to try to shove a phone, keys, garage opener, etc in my pockets.
And this POP! I usually take them out of their boxes but I kinda want to keep this one in it.

I got Chase this Luke for Christmas:

And there’s some places to put other characters in the front?! Like feet holes with peg openings. I put Han there and now they’re having a face off.
And of course when we went to Target they had it on clearance for half of what I paid for it. 😛

Luna tax

Took Christmas down, let Luna climb in the tree a little bit after I took the ornaments off.

Then she was ticked when it was gone. “They took my toy!”

Oh and our Mickey topiary… I told Chase, you know this isn’t exactly super Christmas-y. It could be a year-round decoration. So it’s still sitting in the living room for now LOL

New Year’s Eve we stayed in. I watched Star Wars. New Year’s Day Chase ran out to go to Lowe’s, I stayed home again and didn’t even get out of my pajamas all day. We did some much needed house cleaning and I got some sewing done, but I’ll get to that in a minute.

Sims Stuff
So remember how I said in my last Sims post I wish I could just fill all of my neighborhoods with different fandoms but it would take too long? Well I did it anyway, but having the community gallery to pull from made it much easier. I didn’t have to make most of the characters or houses. One neighborhood is all Disney, one is all Harry Potter, and one is some more random Star Wars characters, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, LOTR, and one Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy household. I didn’t take pics of most of them. I still have 2 neighborhoods I haven’t filled but I hit my 150 sim limit (I can change it to unlimited but the game doesn’t recommend it). I wanted to do one of the neighborhoods as superheroes… maybe I’ll do it anyway.

It does makes going to the community lots much more fun. I wish I could totally ditch the computer-generated sims and only have the ones I made populate the cities, but apparently there’s not a way to do that.

Here’s Yoda. He’s a chihuahua that lives with Mace Windu.

Luke went to the karaoke bar and sang a duet with Voldemort.

Snow White and Harry Potter watched.

Thrawn and Mara Jade:

Jango and Boba:

(I stuck Jango in the Boba Fett outfit because it was a shame not to use it.)

One thing I’ve noticed after adding Pets is a lot of weird little bugs. I have to debug/reset my sims pretty often, and weird little things like balls getting stuck to the pets, but ran into a couple this weekend that were hilarious.

Leia discovered Gary floating in mid air.
He wasn’t aging up anything. He was peeing on the floor and decided to do it from a few feet above.

Then Leia and Han were talking and she had to go to the bathroom, so she went, Han followed. I went along because I wanted her to take Gary for a walk as soon as she was done….

And she was peeing standing up. She stopped, talked to Han for a minute, then turned around and did it again.

Pregnancy side effect?

Sewing!

I got a good bit done on my new TFA Leia underdress over the weekend.
I wasn’t happy with the pattern I used for the first version. It was too fitted. Switched to a simple sheath style dress – 2 side seams and a back seam, and I added the front seam since the original has that. I had to lengthen it, change the neckline, and add the sleeves as well. Got my lining cut (black taffeta, would’ve gotten blue but they didn’t have any):

Then used those as a pattern to cut out my peachskin:

The most time consuming part was that front seam. I heat-bonded the peachskin to the taffeta along those edges to keep them smooth. I’m like 90% happy with how it that front seam turned out.

Here it is after I pressed that front seam:

The front and back just pinned on with the outer dress over them:

Front and back panels sewn together, zipper is in, sleeves are in.

I used a sleeve pattern I had sitting around — it was a little too tall around the upper edge, and I had to really monkey with it to make them fit smoothly. But it worked out.

All that’s left is making a facing for the collar to finish that edge, and hemming it. Whoo! That was quick and it is like 9 million times better than the old one.

In other costume news, we are thinking about going to Anime Blues Con Winterfest Remix. We’ve never been – or been to the regular ABC for that matter. But since Southern Fried Comic Con is no longer a thing, it seemed like a decent one day replacement, and something kevin would enjoy.
I’ve been trying to figure out what I want to wear… Kevin would probably wear ROTJ Luke, so I was trying to figure out what I’d want to wear Star Wars-wise. At first I wanted to do Hoth but… 10lbs needs to be lost before I wear that anywhere. 😛
So my other options…
TFA Leia – since the underdress is almost done I thought about doing that so I could take new pics to submit to RL.
Endor Gear Leia – I’ve only worn this 3 times – and 2 of those times were just for photoshoots. It would need some repairs and updates — I need to reattach the brim to the donut and fix the belt connection (it’s all torn up in the back), and I’d like to redye it darker. Always wanted to do that but I think it’s faded a good bit since last time I wore it on top of that. But that’s all do-able. But would anybody care if I wore this?? I dunno. It might be one of those “Should’ve just worn normal clothes” costumes.
Disgust – just watched Inside Out again last night and thought I might pull this out again. Only worn it once. It would be a little chilly for it tho.
Time Lord – it would definitely be warm. I’d have to fix that seal that broke off but that’s it. Could stick Kevin in his 11th Doctor. I thought about Marie Antoinette TARDIS but I don’t want to wear anything too wide to a con I haven’t been to before.
Mon Mothma – maybe. It’d be fairly warm at least.
Some older Disney costume, either Briar Rose or Snow White. Prob Briar Rose between those 2.

I’d really wanted to wear pink Georgian but I know I won’t fit in it right now 🙁 It fit great at Visioncon in Feb but when we did the white backdrop in April, I was busting out of it and nearly fainted because it was so tight 🙁 So I know it wouldn’t work now. So I’ll have to save that, maybe wear it to the “regular” ABC in summer.

So that’s it. I’m gonna go update my patreon with some TFA Leia construction stuff. Yay.
