The light at the end of the tunnel

I’ve felt icky all week, the weather shifted and gave me a migraine and yesterday I just could not get it under control. It couldn’t make up its mind whether or not it was now a migraine or a sinus headache, which means I take one medication, it doesn’t work, take another, that doesn’t work, take another — ok that kinda worked but now you’re sick to your stomach from all the medication and still have a headache! Yay!

So I went home from work early and slept.

Once I got up I felt a little better. I spent the evening finishing some stuff up on the dress.

I got the shawl piece cut, sewn together, dyed and a snap put in place. I honestly don’t know if I like it or if I even want to wear it, but I’ll bring it with me either way.
Got the sash piece put together, button holes done in the back, buttons attached (I had two Tudor Rose buttons leftover from Anne last year – I put a white wash over the top of them and really like how they look). I decided to forget trying to make that little white filigree piece I had into a functional buckle and just sewed it on.
I put together the trims for the stomacher and got that sewn on, and I finished beading the trim up the front (because I can’t NOT bead it, it has to sparkle somewhere).
I got the hook and eyes sewn in place for the front swags, got some flowers attached to hide them.

At the moment I feel like the swags/bustles need to be pulled back further; I’m hoping that that is just a matter of having the side seams pulled too far forward at the moment, and just shifting the skirts around will open it up a bit more. I really don’t want to have to readjust the hooks; they damage the fabric so moving them means leaving a damaged spot uncovered. Tonight I’m putting a couple of hidden snaps along the bottom to keep the draped skirt sections laying the way I want.

So besides that, I have a few more flowers to add and my necklace to finish… and that’s it. I decided not to bustle the back. If somebody steps on me, they will simply die.

I also finally got started on my wig. Night before last I added in a small hairline (not a lot. didn’t have time). Last night I teased it up and got the wefts sewn in the bottom for the curls.

Looks more like a fright wig there. My inspiration for it is the Duchess of Devonshire, using this look from the movie The Duchess as the goal.

I tried curling one of the bottom pieces last night, but my curlers simply weren’t big enough; off to Target tonight for larger curlers. Once I get those curled, I can tame the upper section a bit more, get it into shape, make some hair ornaments and I can finally call this done with.
