Car, etc

I forgot to post about my lovely incident last week.

So Tuesday I’m on my way home, Kevin is with me, we’re going down the interstate 70mph. When I hear a LOUD “blumph blumph blumph” – my front passenger side tire blew out. Luckily I was RIGHT at an exit and was able to throw my hazard lights on, roll off the interstate and limp into a gas station.

Kevin was going “WHOA WHOA WHOA” the whole time and I was going, “AUUUUUUUUUGH”

Chase came up about 20 minutes later. The thing is, that tire that shredded was actually my spare – the VW has a full-sized spare, and after I got a flat a while back (snake-bit a curb), I just threw the spare on and never got the actual tire fixed. So that’s my bad I guess. We pulled the actual tire out of the back, took it down to a nearby tire center, they threw a new tire on it, and Chase changed it for me.

But it was just yet another thing with this car. We are currently shopping for a new one so I can get rid of the bug, because I feel like it’s only held together by hope at this point. The A/C went out last year, got it fixed – and now it’s out again this year. I’m not fixing it this time. Both headlights are out. Do you know what it costs for me change one headlight in a “new” vw bug? $80. No way. I just don’t drive at night.

But the saga continues! Yesterday, I was on my way back to work after lunch, and hit some plastic thing that was in the middle of the off-ramp (the guy in front of me swerved to miss it at the last minute, there was no time for me to go around). I get up to the light and a guy pulls next to me and points at the bottom of my car. I pull off to the side, thinking the plastic thing is hung under my car. Nope, it’s my skid plate – the giant plastic covering the car’s undercarriage. It’s been partially ripped off and is dragging on the ground. While I’m sitting there examining it, a cop pulls up to make sure I’m ok. EMBARRASSING. I limp on down to my dad’s office and he came out to check it, said I should be safe to drive (slowly) and then have Chase cut the rest off when we got home.

I really didn’t want to drive it home, so after we all met at the flooring place (more on that in a minute), Chase and I switched cars and I drove his truck home and he drove the bug, then he did indeed cut it away. I’m not going to get it replaced at this point, because it’s $120 just for the part and I’m hoping to instead just have a new car within the next month. Blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah stupid bug.

So for Christmas year before last my parents “gave” us new flooring for our house. We finally went and picked something out recently, got the house measured, and went in and paid for it last night! We are getting rid of the icky carpet (note: I actually like carpet a lot, I’m not one of those people who go “EW CARPET WHY NO HARDWOOD”, but our carpet IS very icky at this point. It’s nearly 20 years old, and had an elderly dog with bladder problems living in it for the last 4-5 years.) and putting down laminate. It’s kind-of a dark grey.

It should be in late next week, we have to get it to the house and let it acclimate for a couple of days, and then the floor guy said it would take a couple of days to install. We are getting the living room, the hallway, the entryway and the kitchen done. (The kitchen, btw, has TWO layers of vinyl flooring on it we are going to have to take up. The original ugly off-white and pink stuff, and the now-kinda-icky sticky-back stuff we put down when we moved in.) I think it’s going to look really nice.

Also finally finished cleaning my office:

My sewing room is finally clean! Time to make all the things!
