Painting and Elvish Dress

Today was productive!
Took the dog to the vet in the morning, then ran errands. Then we came home and FINALLY finished painting the living room! Well, almost… this coat was the first layer, but the living room matches the hall now and it at least looks a bit more done. We also still need to paint the trim and the fireplace – but this was a big step. Pics once we put the room back together.

Then I hemmed our curtains (again, finally), and played around with my elf dress.
Yes, this wasn’t on my list of costumes for this year… but my office was clean and I wanted to sew. I’ve had this grey velvet in my stash for SEVEN years (in fact, here it is on my facebook back in 2010 when I was trying to decide what to do with it)… I couldn’t decided between a cape and a dress at first, but since I already have 2 elf capes I decided to go for the dress.

I got my Arwen dress out to use as a reference, and got the pieces cut out the other night. I’m also going to use this silver and white fabric leftover from Sleeping Beauty, for the sleeve uppers and the trim (I pinned it on to see how it looked with the velvet, it’s not staying like that). Lower sleeves I’m thinking chiffon, or maybe white velvet.

The lighting in this pic is kinda giving it a pinkish hue... the colours in the other pic are better.Anyway a couple of hours later and I've got the dress put together and the hem pinned up. Cut the upper sleeves and was playing with some trim on the lower edge.
