MidSouthCon 2011 wrap-up!

MidSouthCon kicked my butt! But it was a great weekend.
Didn’t get a lot of pics. Most of the pics we took were Chase’s he took in his photo booth, so I can’t post those. But I’ll post what I have.

Friday I’m glad I had the day off, because I ended up having a lot to finish up at the house, plus packing. I ended up taking Queen Hippolyta (of course), Mara Jade (wanted one Star Wars costume), Jane, Ms Marvel, Giselle, and Anne Boleyn – I also took Ame-Comi Supergirl, Jean Grey and Sally Jupiter, but didn’t get a chance to wear those three. (It was pretty chilly outside, and in the hotel too – I would have froze in those 3 costumes which is why I avoided them, I think.)

So Chase got off work a little early and we headed out to the con – I wore Jane. We picked up our badges and panel info, and headed to opening ceremonies. My fav thing about this con: the people. All of the staff was SO nice and friendly and helpful, and it’s great to see so many friends we haven’t seen in a while.
As a Guest of Honor I was given a gift basket and I was really pleased with the things in mine – it had a lot of great stuff in it, including the midsouthcon t-shirt for this year and a mug, but the sewing kit, lightsaber lip balm and makeup remover made my day. Especially the makeup remover, because I had just run out of mine and forgot to pick up some more before the con, and the brand in my gift box was exactly the brand I use. Winning!
We had the guest meet-n-greet, and sat with Kurt Busiek, who was really nice and neat to talk to.
After that we decided to call it a night – we’d been up late the night before finishing Hippolyta stuff, so we were dead on our feet.

The hotel was awesome by the way – I’ve ALWAYS wanted to stay in that hotel, since I was a kid. So just getting to go and stay there was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. LMAO. The rooms were really nice. We unfortunately had some very loud people on our floor who kept slamming their door (causing our room to shake!) and yelling in the hall, waking us up constantly until nearly 3am.

Saturday we didn’t have any panels, but we got on up and set up Chase’s photo booth in the dealer’s room. I put on Mara Jade in the morning, so I could help him carry stuff down. After wearing it about an hour, I discovered the vinyl was tearing off the backing. Everything else I’ve made with that fabric has fallen apart over the years – I knew Mara Jade’s time was coming, but was still sad to see it. I had to go change out of it because it was pretty bad and just getting worse. I tossed on Ms Marvel (even though I’ve worn it a ton lately, but it was one of the few things I brought I could put on by myself.) and wore that pretty much the rest of the day.
It was nice to just hang out in the dealer’s room and people watch, Chase sold some prints and stuff so it was great.
We tore down the booth around 4 and went up to change – I decided to change into Giselle and we headed to the banquet. The dinner served was really yummy, and we had nice company at our table.
After that, we ran upstairs to get Hippolyta finished and on me. See my post about it for more info on it. Headed back down for the masquerade.
I’ve never judged a masquerade, and it was fun, honestly I’ve never enjoyed watching a masquerade more.
Once the winners were announced, we headed to get some much needed sleep!

Next day I woke up with a migraine and had of course left my medicine at home. Chase ran home to get it for me in the morning, but I unfortunately missed my first commitment that morning which I felt terrible about. But I wouldn’t have been very good company until my migraine meds had kicked in! LOL. I got into Anne Boleyn and packed up the room as quick as I could, then ran downstairs to a Guest Social. Once again great company, and all the other guests were SO nice.
Had our first panel at 1, and then my panel at 2 was just me which was kind of terrifying but I made it through it! Of course I had a really great moderator which I’m super grateful for. 🙂
Chase’s panel was right after that (luckily these were all in the same room!) and then we had closing ceremonies. We headed on home after that, because we were both exhausted and I wasn’t feeling that great. We came home, ate dinner, and both fell asleep on the couch for 2 hours LOL

Here’s a handful of pics.

It was a really wonderful experience to be a Guest of Honor. I’m so glad to have gotten to do it, and at my hometown con. I’m really grateful for all the staff & volunteers who made it be such a great time! 🙂
