the Supergirl wig curse

I feel like I was cursed when it came to wigs this summer – and I couldn’t really talk about it since I was keeping Supergirl under wraps.

I searched for a long time for the 2 wigs I needed for Gaga and the wig for Supergirl. The yellow wig was weirdly enough the easiest.
I found a blonde wig I thought was perfect for Gaga, right part, right shade, right waviness.
I found a another blonde wig I thought was perfect for Supergirl, maybe might need a little curling but looked pretty good.

Gaga wigs came – yellow was great. The blonde one? Looked brown. It was gorgeous otherwise. There were just way too much brown mixed in with the blonde.
Supergirl wig came – hated it instantly. It looked like a cheap costume 50’s flip-style wig, complete with a little bouffant bump at the top. (ie, it looked almost like this, just not so tall.) It was so not right and I didn’t know what to do – my wig budget was spent, couldn’t return them.

I decided to suck it up and use the brownish wig for Gaga. It was the most expensive of the 3. The Supergirl one I tried to save by straightening, and adding some wefts, but it just wasn’t working. I finished off the second Donna Troy suit and sold it to pay for the new Supergirl wig.

The second Supergirl wig was better than the first, but I’m still not crazy about it. It’s got a little too much late 80s soap opera look to it. Like I need to put on a power suit with big shoulder pads and slap somebody. LOL. I finally realised, after looking at pics, what I need to look for and do – so Chase has promised I can buy a new wig for GMX 🙂

So anyway. I got the Lady Gaga wigs on my wighead. The brown just looked totally wrong. I wracked my brain. Did I have another wig I could use? The only old wig I could think of was the one I was going to use for Magik. Then I thought, why not use the bad Supergirl wig? The first one I’d melted part of with a curling iron, cut, added wefts to… I’d been planning on throwing it away it was in such a state! LOL

But I pulled it out and put it on top of the yellow wig. And tada, it worked. I added a few more wefts, and it actually worked pretty well. Not 100%, but 100x better than the brownish wig looked. After seeing pics I realised my blonde wig was sliding back, so I need to go back and sew them together to make them one, so that doesn’t happen again.

(btw, I still dont have Gaga pics up on flickr – but I have some up on ACP.)

So luckily I didn’t lose out on so much money on the whole deal. But I felt cursed! I usually have good luck with buying wigs! To have 3 I wasn’t happy with all at once, it was weird.

And now one happy story – the wig I chopped up and used for Alyss was a cosworx wig. I saw they were having a clearance and snagged that henna red Godiva wig for like $20 shipped. SWEET.
