Dragoncon 2008 Costume wrapup

1. Giselle
I was really pleased with the updates to Giselle. An hour’s worth of work turned it from a costume I really didn’t care about to something I was really happy with.

I actually wish I’d tossed it on on Monday at the con as well. I might wear it sometime at Halloween if it’s not too cold out.

2. Black Canary
This costume was SO freaking comfortable! I really fell in love with it over the weekend – I mean, I liked it before, but I had a great time wearing it at the con.
I’ve got to permanently attach the zipper pull to the zipper, but that’s the only repair that needs made (the glue I tried the first time didn’t work – Eurobeat King was taking my pic and asked if I could zip the suit all the way up – I did and it fell off LOL.)
I do want to add a jacket to it – we were considering going to the nashville comic fest next month and if we do, I want to wear this and try to add the jacket. (Second photo by Patcave)

3. Selene
The glue actually held on the boots!! That’s really all I cared about by that point, LOL.
Like I said before, since I was doing this in secret, it was hard to do too much work on it. I really need to take up the suit a little more, especially through the arms and chest. I’d like to fix the boots up – or replace them all together – and figure out the holsters. I’m going to put Chase to work on that 😉

4. Poison Ivy
I really, really surprised at how popular a costume this was at Dragoncon. There were probably 100 Poison Ivys running around over the weekend… and mine was just kind-of generic, but a lot of people responded well to it. The cool thing was how every single Poison Ivy was slightly different, it’s really cool to see all the different takes on it.
I did end up wearing this twice, only because I couldn’t bear to put the Zatanna shoes on again.

5. Zatanna
My #1 priority is getting my own hat!! I think I’ll ask for one for Christmas 🙂
I was really, really pleased with how this costume turned out. The only problem was, when I went to put it on, we discovered a small hole in the swimsuit bottoms! Yikes! It was easy to sew closed real quick, but as a result I think I’m just going to get a new pair – black swimsuit bottoms aren’t hard to find.
Next time I wear it, I need to make sure I’ll not be doing much walking, though…

6. Starfire
I’ll just go through this one piece by piece.
The wig did GREAT! It didn’t get smashed up or too tangled or anything, and contrary to how it looks it’s super light.
The collar ended up not fitting exactly right – I had to wear it farther back on my shoulders to hide the line of the chestpiece. Chase wants to completely remake it – too bad, i love how it looked!!
The chestpiece was SO FREAKING HOT to wear. It along made this the most miserable costume of the con in that respect LOL.
It also caused the biggest problem of the costume. I had attached a strap that held the whole thing in place and kept it “in” on the sides. Well right before we left the room – it snapped. And not where it could be fixed, it completely pulled off one side of the piece. As a result the whole chestpiece was not secure and, while it stayed in place ok, the sides wanted to flare out instead of laying flat against me.
Outside of my complaints I was SUPER happy with this and cannot wait to wear it again.

7. Glinda
Yes, Glinda… sigh!
After I triumphantly thought to myself, several weeks ago, “the dress is done!” and packed it away – I realised I completely forgot the SLEEVES. It just didn’t look right without them, so I’m going to be adding the sleeves.
The wig! Good lord. I wasn’t happy with the wig to begin with, but once I had it all on, I realised it was actually too big. On top of that, when I went to put the crown on – it didn’t fit! Despite the fact I had tried the wig and crown on at home, I dont know what happened – nothing changed, I just don’t know. Chase had to dremel away the back half of the crown at the con just so I could wear it for a little while. Plus it just doesn’t look right – so Chase is going to remake the entire crown. LOL. What a ball of fun this costume turned out to be, huh?

She’s definitely going back to the work table.

8. Scarlet Witch
My only nitpick is I need to find a different want to attach the crown. And I forgot to pack the little red tube-top I wear underneath this and my regular WW corset. Bah.

9. Werewolf Belle
Really I’ve already said everything I needed to about it.
I do want to see if I can cut down the ears and get them to fit with my wig – like I used to do with my elf ears.
And I wanted to add a tail from the get-go, but didn’t really have time to mess with it. I thought of wearing Chase’s Beast tail, but it didn’t really match anything else.
I do wish I’d been able to wear it longer.

10. AC Wonder Woman
I’ve already talked about the whole drama with the chestpiece and what-not, so I’m not going to go into all that again, because honestly it still pisses me off.
The wig was SO heavy. Also need to repaint the ponytail holder – should be gold, oops.
Chase wants to go back and clean-up some of the details on the hard pieces, ie, the sword, etc.
I need to reattach some of the stars on the skirt.
We need to replace the black straps with red ones.

And that’s that!

Tomorrow we’re heading for Nashville – Saturday we have the Walk for Autism as well as the Pottery Barn Kids event I’m doing in Leia. Chase’ll be doing Clone at the walk and then handler at the PB thing. I’m looking forward to it – I haven’t worn Leia since the Christmas parades in december!

In that first photo of Wonder Woman? You look like an action figure. It honestly took me a second to realize you were, well, you. And real.

I just love your Zatanna costume, you look great.

I agree, that first photo of your Wonder Woman is amazing! Shows off the detail of your shield really well 🙂

All very cool! Your legs look soooo long in Zatanna!

The WW looks amazing. I love those figures 🙂 I have the batgirl one, which I got for ‘research’ lol
