A 4 day weekend…

Ahh gosh I don’t remember what I posted about last time.

Last week was mostly working on the Leia I was making for a friend.

That’s my new one on the left, hers on the right. I got it finished up on Thursday – and now I want to redo parts of mine, LOL.
Namely that I made the dress a bit slimmer through the chest/waist. I want to go back and do that to mine – also I understitched the hem and it made a HUGE difference.
Actually I’m tempted to just sell my new one and use the funds to make another one all together. I may have to stew on that idea.

Valentine’s Day Flowers!

Thursday night we saw Black Panther at the imax! And they gave us a poster, so that was neat. Loved it, especially the costumes!! And Shuri was the best.
I wore all my Cap stuff. I was talking to Chase about how it’s funny I have only Captain America clothes, Marvel-wise.

But then I was like, “OH I do have a Spider-man shirt. And 2 X-Men shirts. And a Hulk shirt. Oh and two Thor shirts.” So maybe not LOL

The poster! Love this art.

And then I had a 4 day weekend! Not because of President’s Day… just because I decided to have a 4 day weekend because I was dog-sitting, so I took off Friday and Monday. Friday Derek came into town, so he and Chase stayed busy Friday afternoon through Saturday. I decided since I was dog-sitting over at Nana’s all weekend, I’d grab Kevin, we’d work on his Peter Pan costume, and we’d eat a bunch of bad junk and watch Marvel movies.

Daisy!

I picked up Kevin and we went shopping – picked up food for the weekend, and ran to goodwill so I could find some shoes to use for Tink. Ended up getting 2 pairs, but also found this amazing set of “ruby slippers” that I would have also gotten if they’d been anywhere near my size.

Then we got set up to work on Kevin’s Peter Pan.

Got his tunic patterned out, cut out of the lining… then went to cut the linen for the exterior and I didn’t have enough. The linen I was using was the first version of my TFA Leia dress (the one I messed up the dye on). I had put it in some colour remover and gotten it down to a grey (though still pretty splotchy), and then tossed it in some green for Peter Pan… and I felt like the underlying splotchiness worked for a boy who has been living in the woods. I had enough to cut the two front panels, but then didn’t have anything wide enough to cut the back, or the sleeves. UGH! Should have known better. It was already around 5 by then, so I thought about heading to Joann that night (had been planning to go Sat morning) since that kinda threw a wrench in the progress. But it’s so far away… we decided we’d run to Hobby Lobby (much closer) and see if they had anything close, and also go ahead and look for fabric for his pants.

Hobby Lobby was a no-go on a match for the linen but we did find his pants fabric. It’s a super soft khaki knit — I’m going to dye it a bit darker, but didn’t want to do that over at Nana’s house. So we went ahead and got his pants basically put together that night, and I’ll dye them later.

Used a pajama pants pattern, shortened.

Not a great pic of them since they didn’t have a waistband or elastic in so I had just pinned them to stay up LOL.

Then I felt like I’d accomplished enough for the day – got the tunic patterned and started, got the pants halfway done – so we cooked dinner (spaghetti) and we started our Marvel marathon. I did some doodling while we watched Iron Man 1 and half of Iron Man 2.

Saturday we got on up and drove the 40 minutes to Joann’s. Managed to track down a good match on the weave of the original linen and got a couple of yards. Also got elastic for his pants. Simplicity was on sale but they didn’t have the new American Duchess patterns in stock! :\ And I pretty much had every other costume pattern so I only got one random pattern. Then we ran next door to Toys R Us to find him a sword we can put on his belt. Find a good pirate sword that just needs some repainting and dirtying up.

And he found Link sunglasses to try on.

Ran by my own house to grab my felt to make his hat, too, then out to my parents’ house to help mom with her play costume.

She’s trying to get the bodice to fit better, we played around with a few things, in the end she took the skirt off, shortened the bodice and took a dart in the front.

Hi Kes!

Then we went and picked up lunch, and back to Nana’s to eat and have a nap.

First thing we got to work on was his hat – got it cut, sized and lining sewn in – just needs dyed, pressed, and closed up. I was pretty happy with how this turned out!

Also got a waistband put on his pants, and the elastic in. Then we had leftover spaghetti for dinner and finished up Iron Man 2, Captain America First Avenger, and half of Thor.

Sunday we got on up and I took all my sewing stuff back home. Tried to dye his hat…. with no success :\ Apparently you can’t dye polyester wool even with synthetic dye? Nothing would stick, it all just washed right off. Super disappointing since I was really happy with how it turned out. Chase is going to run by Joanns for me this week to see what they have in terms of green felt. At least it wasn’t hard to make and I can take this one apart and use it as a pattern.

We ran to lunch and then to the theater – we were hoping to use our moviepass to see Black Panther again with Ash and Gabe. I’d bought Kevin a ticket ahead of time, but when we got there it was all sold out! So I ended up using the one ticket to see the movie… Kevin and Chase were thinking of seeing something else, but there wasn’t really much else, so they just went on home 🙁

(I asked Kevin what his favourite part of our hangout-weekend was… he said “Almost seeing Black Panther.” OMG LOL now I feel bad.)

Ash got me this Leia pin!!! I had wanted one! It was funny because we each bought each other different Leia pins separately at the same time LOL The one I got for her hasn’t come yet, but I’ll post a pic when it does.

I really need to find a way to display my pins. I want one of those bags with the clear plastic sleeve for putting your pins in. Or maybe I just need to make a new purse that has a section meant for them. I have so many cool pins that just sit on my dresser… so yeah need a new bag.

After the movie we dropped Kevin off at his house, ran to Michael’s so I could get some dye for Monday, and then had dinner. Then I headed back over to Nana’s for one more night of dog-sitting.

Did some Daisy chalk art for them. Watched Avengers and doodled some more.

MONDAY! I got on up, cleaned up the house, made sure Daisy was set and headed home by 8. I immediately got into doing some dyeing…

And broke my stir stick 🙁

Big focus of yesterday was Tinkerbell, since she’s been set to the side for a week while I finished up Leia.

I got Kevin’s new linen for his Peter Pan tunic into the dye. Managed to colour-match the original weirdly-dyed linen pretty well – apple green, tan, ecru and sunshine yellow. Thankfully it was warm and windy out yesterday so I was able to put it out on the line and get it dry pretty quickly.

I also dyed the dyeable shoes I got for Tink at goodwill.

I was happy with how they turned out but I think they may need to go a TAD darker to look right with my dress — so they may go back in, waiting to see…

And then I hadn’t planned on it, but my focus of the day ended up being doing the beading on Tink.

I realized I needed to get the stretch of the sparkle mesh sewn on around the dress, and also had some hand-sewing to do at the back edges. So I figured, might as well start the beading while sewing down the mesh. So I spent most of yesterday sitting on the couch, rewatching Parks and Rec, and beading.

I started to run out of small beads early last night, and I realized I didn’t really have enough “true” green beads. So Chase is also going to see what they have at Joanns for me today while he’s there for my felt. THANKS CHASE! But I’m pretty happy with how it’s looking. MUCH SPARKLE.

I dunno if Luna was glad I was home or what, because she kept trying to sit on me.

Oh and I don’t think I posted these older pics — here’s my Tink wing pattern.

And the fabric I got for the wings.

I’ve really got to buckle down and get this stuff done! MidSouthCon is in 2.5 weeks!
