Old/Retired Costumes

Old/Retired Costumes

This page is a collection of various costumes that just don’t have enough info/photos to deserve their own individual page. This is mostly older costumes that I simply don’t have a lot of photos of, or things I put together for fun or for a quick one time wearing.

Bob Belcher (Bob’s Burgers) – Dragoncon 2022

We did a Bob’s Burgers group for Dragoncon 2022 – Chase had made a Beefsquatch costume, and I volunteered to be Bob – because what could be more comfortable than a Bob costume? LOL. The shirt was one of Chase’s, the pants and shoes were my Garth shoes. The wig was Kevin’s Harry Potter wig. I bought the mustache and apron. Super cheap silly costume for hanging out with friends.

Donna Nobles – 2012/2014ish

In between 2012 and 2014 I put together two Donna Noble costumes that I never wore anywhere. First was her Partners in Crime outfit – I found this jacket at the thrift store and realized the pin stripe perfectly matched a pair of pinstripe pants I already had and they’d work for this. Unfortunately that pinstripe pants were from the 90s and I no longer fit in them LOL. I could just barely get them on and they were so uncomfortable I never wore them anywhere. The other is the Turn Left look – I have the screen accurate jacket, but I just ended up wearing the jacket as a normal winter jacket instead of making it a costume. All of I have both is a few screencaps from videos and mirror selfies.

Julia (Cowboy Bebop) – MTAC 2010

I bought this suit back in 2010 to use with both Black Widow and Selene – and I realized I could also make some new accessories and do a quick Julia costume for MTAC that year (since otherwise I wasn’t taking anything anime related! LOL.) The suit is a wet-look spandex from River’s Edge dancerwear. The belt was made out of dyed leather, and I bought the sunglasses. In 2025 I finally got this out of and shot it on the white backdrop with a different wig – I had lost the original spandex neckband so I made do with a black ribbon instead. I have no plans to wear this again, but since everything except the belt belongs to other costumes it’ll stay in my collection for a long while regardless.

Random Elves – Lord of the Rings, 2001 & 2004

I made two elf cloaks in the early days – the first was this dark grey charcoal velvet cape I made for hte FOTR midnight show in 2001. That velvet was a lucky find at Hancock and looked very similar to some of the Rivendell extra capes! I used a basic cape pattern and added a black and gold ribbon at the neck for a closure. The second cloak is the purple one – my parents gave me yardage of this purple velvet for Christmas in 2003, and I couldn’t decide what to use it for for a while. Finally decided on a new cape. I use both of these capes with various other costumes anytime it’s cold, so they are both handy!

Glinda of Oz – Dragoncon 2008

I love the artwork in the Oz books, so after doing Ozma in 2004, I wanted to do a book-inspired version of Glinda eventually too. It’s built similarly to my Ozma costume, with an underdress at the base made out of lining material, which I then layered dyed pink chiffon on for the shape. Then I made the outer layer out of a thin pink fabric I got at Hancock and sewed that over the underdress/chiffon portion. I added the collar piece and beaded it as well. The wig is built around foam and a plastic tiara Chase made for me. This did not turn out the way I wanted – I was NOT happy with the wig, the opacity of the dress (didn’t show any of my gradient dyed chiffon through it, which I thought the pink fabric was thin enough to do so), and I FORGOT the sleeves. So I haven’t done anything with this since Dragoncon; I had wanted to rework it, but just never did.

Belle’s Blue Dress version 1 (Beauty and the Beast) – Dragoncon 2006

I put this together for Dragoncon 2006. It was supposed to be for a quick change idea for the masquerade, so the entire thing is made very simply, out of cotton, and it’s all one layer with the bodice and sleeves set into the blue dress. And the whole thing velcroed up the back (super ugly!) I really wasn’t happy with it, aesthetically speaking… so when my husband asked me to wear another costume to match his instead of putting this on at Dragoncon, I agreed and never wore it. The apron went on to my second version of this in 2007, and I’m not sure where the dress got off to… LOL. I think it eventually got thrown away. The pic below is the only one of it I have.

Dazzler (X-Men) – 2004

I never finished this costume, which is why it’s here. I realised I’d never be able to wear it anywhere with those skates! I had originally bought this bodysuit for my AOA Shadowcat costume earlier that year, but when it arrived it was way more SILVER than it had looked online (online it had looked metallic black). So I decided I’d use it for Dazzler. I added the collar, made of marine vinyl covered in silver lamé, and made the mask out of fabric and vinyl. I had the skates and repainted them – they are my childhood skates I could somehow still wedge my feet in! LOL Also added a sash. The collar needed to be finished and attached, and I wanted to make a necklace and remake the mask, but never did. In 2020 when cleaning out the garage I came across the skates and the wheels had crumbled into dust, so I threw them away. I guess the rest of it is still around here somewhere.

The Powerpuff Girls – Dragoncon 2003

My friends and I put these together for the Dcon 2003 parade. All 3 dresses were made without patterns out of a stretch knit – they’re all basically just tubes of fabric with side seams. The waistbands are just a black stretch knit. Bought the tights and we each had our own shoes. I styled the wigs for Blossom & Bubbles, and I wish we’d gotten a wig for Buttercup. In 2024 I got Blossom out and cleaned up that Party City wig as best I could and finally got this shot on the white backdrop so I could permanently retire it.

Alucard (Hellsing) – Anime Expo 2003

I helped my friend Ash put this costume together for Akon in 2003. The jacket was a lucky find at the thrift store, the hat was one we found on ebay and (I think?) covered in fabric. I asked if I could borrow it for a casual Thursday night costume at Anime Expo 2003. I wore her jacket, hat and ascot with a vest and pants I already had, and also included a black wig with red streaks I’d bought for something else and otherwise never used. The vest went on to become my Zatanna vest in 2008, and the pants became my Partners in Crime Donna Noble pants in 2013. Don’t know what Ash did with the rest of it!

Sana Kurata (Kodocha) – Akon 2003

I was obsessed with Kodocha, so I threw this together based on an outfit she wears later in the animated series as a quick easy costume for Akon 2003. I made the skirt out of an orange stretch knit, the shirts are made up of two shirts from Goodwill. I made the yellow part out of some leftover Nanami fabric, and painted the “Sana” text on it with fabric paint. I made my Babbit pin out of craft foam (my fav part of the costume!) Just wore it with some brown shoes I had. It did make one more appearance, at MTAC in 2004.

Sakura’s School Uniform (Card Captor Sakura) – 2002

I already had bought this skirt for my 2003 Utena costume, so of course I wanted to figure out something else to use it for. Sakura’s school uniform seemed to be an easy option, especially since I had the accessories from my previous Sakura costume. The top was just a black turtleneck I bought, I added the cuffs and the collar. Made both out of some white matte satin and the collar was based on my Sailor Jupiter collar from 2000. Added the red stripes with red ribbon. The socks were from Yuffie and I had the shoes. I’d intended to wear this to Katsucon 2003, but had too many other costumes so I didn’t… and never wore it anywhere, ever.

Buffy Summers (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) – Dragoncon 2002

At Otakon 2002, we kept joking that my Lina Inverse pants were “Buffy” pants, so I put together a quick Buffy costume (actually, 2 costumes) for Dragoncon 2002, as a couple of quick easy downtime costumes. All I bought for either was the Claddagh ring, and dad made my stake out of a scrape piece of wood. For the red pants costume, I wore my Misato shirt, and used some boots I already had, and a wig I’d bought for something that never materialized. For the white/black version, I used my a pair of black leather pants I’d bought in prep for my Ruby Heart costume in 2003, a shirt I already had, and my She-Ra wig. Never wore either again – but I wore both variations plenty at Dragoncon 2002!

Naru (Love Hina) – 2002

I put this together via ebay – cheap yellow sweater, red tennis skirt. Shoes (eventually went on to be my Asuka shoes) & tights (from Chun-Li) I already had. I used some clear tape on my own hair to create the “antenna” look of pieces of hair in the front. Never would have worked in person, but in a crappy early 2000s digital camera, worked fine LOL. I just took a few photos of it and resold it together on ebay a few weeks later.

Lara Croft (Tomb Raider) – June 2002

I realized I could toss together out of stuff I already had and my plan was to take it to MTAC 2002. I did cobble it all together, but ended up never wearing it anywhere. I only ever took these few test shots. The top and shorts were from my own closet, the shoes were my own hiking boots. The glasses were the only thing I bought specifically for this (and went on to use them for Alucard above the next year). The holster was a Jango Fett costume piece I’d bought at the Halloween store for another costume. It eventually got chopped up and used for my mandalorian costume in 2006.

Princess Leia version 1 (Star Wars) – May 2002

Originally I had planned to use my mom’s Bride of Frankenstein costume as a quick Leia costume for the AOTC midnight show in 2001, but 2 days before realized it was not going to work for that. So a quick trip to Hancock, came home with some of this white lingerie fabric I was obsessed with back then. We just threw it over my head and cut a neck hole in it, and holes for the belt to go through. The belt was my She-Ra belt. My buns were pre-braided pieces of hair. This “dress” was worn by quite a few other people as other costumes over the years. Sadly it seems to be lost at this point, I haven’t seen it years. I’m hoping to stumble across it one day.

Cammy (Street Fighter) – MTAC 2001

Originally for MTAC 2001, I was going to make Juri from Utena, but the wig I wanted was backordered. So, Plan B was Cammy. I bought the suit from a local dancewear store, and they gave me some scrap of the material to make the hat. The wig I bought online and styled with floral wire and clear elmer’s glue. The “tie” I made out of thermo-plastic and yellow vinyl – it velcros onto the suit. The gloves were made of cardboard and red vinyl, and completely fell apart after the first time I wore them. That’s how I learned hot glue doesn’t work great on vinyl LOL I cobbled them back together for a few pics later on. A few years later I sold the suit and hat, melted down the friendly plastic from the tie for something else, and finally threw away what was left of the gloves in 2021.

Milly Thompson (Trigun) – MTAC 2001

Mom and I were cleaning out the attic and stumbled across this old trenchcoat. I was sooo excited because now I could make the Milly costume I wanted to make! I added the green shawl piece made of green cotton (unhemmed lol) and made the tie out of cotton as well (also unhemmed… I couldn’t find a plain red tie to buy anywhere!). Borrowed the suspenders from my dad and everything else was from my own closet. Ash made a Meryl costume to match me. We had so much fun in these at MTAC… but I never wore it again after that, except for some photos around the house (even though Ash wore Meryl again a few times!) I guess the trenchcoat is still around here somewhere, I don’t recall donating or throwing it away.

Random Stuff from 2001

Here’s a collection of random stuff I put together in 2001 that doesn’t even really deserve it’s own entry here. Rinoa from FF8 (borrowed parts from my cousin’s costume), Wolfwood from Trigun (made of stuff from my own closet + the official sunglasses), Sailor Mars (bought on ebay), Chairperson from Rival Schools (stuff from my closet), and Samara from the Ring (which is actually from 2003 but I’m putting it here anyway).

Piper (SunDowner) – 2001

Back in the early days I used to check ebay regularly for any listings tagged “cosplay” (there weren’t a lot back then!) and one day saw this red wig that I thought would be PERFECT for Piper. I got into a bidding war and paid way too much for it but I won it. I put the Piper costume together to go with it – easy enough since Piper’s costume from issue 1 was based on my own clothes. As with a lot of costumes like this, I never wore it anywhere, but it was fun to take some pictures in.

Ranma (Ranma 1/2) – 2001

On a family vacation to Disney World in 2001, Ash and I spotted these black and white outfits in the China pavilion in Epcot and immediately said “Ranma costumes!” We both bought one intending to wear them together as girl and boy Ranma. I had a hat and a pair of shoes that worked. Ash didn’t. So for MTAC 2001, I let Ash have the hat and shoes and she wore Ranma on her own. I ended up never wearing mine, even after I got a red wig for it! Literally the only time I wore it was for this one single pic in 2001. I eventually sold it.

Sakura Bat Thief Outfit (Card Captor Sakura) – Animazement 2001

I wanted to do a Sakura costume but at the time wasn’t comfortable doing any of her big girly dresses, so I picked her cute little bat thief look instead. I made it black instead of green because my fabric store didn’t have green stretch fabric LOL The diamonds were made of felt and just lightly stitched on, the shorts and hat I had – I pinned the diamonds to the hat and made boot covers. The wings were made of coat hangers covered in black tights. I only ever wore it to Animazement and for a few photos around the house. I do still have it… not sure what kind of shape it’s in though!

Beatrix (Final Fantasy 9) – Animazement 2001

I loved Beatrix and decided it would be my first “big” costume for my first anime con. Grandma and mom helped me make this using a couple of patterns for the jacket and pants. I made the boot covers out of vinyl, armor out of painted cardboard, and painted the rose on the back of the jacket. My fav part is that we made the gloves out of cotton and they snap all the way up as a closure LOL I never wore it again except for a few photos around the house. Would love to remake this one day.

Britan Ashtaroth (SunDowner) – Halloween 1998

I think I went to every single store that might have Halloween costume stuff the week before Halloween trying to put together this outfit. In the end I had to just use stuff from around the house – the pants and boots were mine, the shirt was one of dad’s from the 80s, the vest was mom’s. I made the bow. I wore a modified version at Animazement in 2001 as a comfy downtime costume, and later scrambled together her Issue 6 blue sweater outfit, too. Never did consider any of these “Complete” because I never had a holster!
