all my bags are packed

Well, here we are, end of the road – did everything get done? Ehhhh kinda. “Done enough.”

Picnic Padme is done.

I packed a bag of sequins and a needle and thread to maybe work on in the hotel room. We’ll see if I feel like doing that or not.
I got the ribbons dyed, pressed and pieced out. They all snap on, the hair ones are on a barrette. Got the back of the bodice finished and snaps placed. Got the cape sewn on.

Things I already want to redo/update after dcon:
1. more sequins
2. some more embroidery on the skirt, it’s a little less dense in places than it should be, esp center front.
3. fix the skirt hem
4. remake the cape

I did finally get to put it all on together. I am really happy with it – the skirt is so lightweight it feels like I’m wearing nothing LOL

Morticia is done and packed. I did test the makeup, partially. I also added some of those red beads to the sleeve drapey pieces. Can’t see it in photos, too small, but they catch the light.

Rogue is done – no photos to share. Chase fixed my boot, I got the buckle sewn onto the belt, and got the X symbol pressed onto the shirt.

Space Mutiny is done. Chase forgot to ever buy a belt. He bought one on Thursday that was supposed to arrive Saturday. That got changed to Sunday. It never showed yesterday, so at 7 last night I grabbed what was left of my jumbo black spandex and quickly made him a belt. It’s cobbled together nonsense but at least the shape is slightly more accurate than the one he bought.

I did finally try on Belle at around 8:30 last night with the stays. The stays helped distribute the weight of the skirt MUCH better. By that point of the night Chase and I were at each others throats LOL I kept frustratedly asking him about King Kong – “CAN YOU SEE KING KONG” (because my stays are made with King Kong fabric, so that’s just what I call that set!) and he didn’t know what I was talking about.

The big drama Saturday was my Padme/Taylor suit. It is SO hard to zip up because it’s so fitted and it’s hard to grab the edges of the zipper to pull it closed to zip because of the rhinestones, so I decided I’d make two panels with eyelets and just whip stitch them into the interior. That way you could lace it and pull the sides together, and then zip over the top of that. Well it seemed like it was working well at first, until about halfway up when the zipper broke. Ohhhh noooooo.

There’s no way to put a new zipper on without trying to pry off the rhinestones around the back edge – even then, the suit is so heavy and unwieldy I’m not sure I could get it through the machine. I did not want to trust a hand-sewn-in zipper – so I took those eyelet panels I made, moved them further into the interior of the suit (because they don’t match AT ALL – they are bumblebee yellow and black, I just used what fabric I had out) and tacked the edge of the suit down in between each eyelet. I have to put the lacing in before I step into it because otherwise the eyelets are really hard to get to — and once on, the back is REALLY ugly because the sides still pull away and show some of that eyelet panel, and I couldn’t get the center back butt seam all the way up to it. But it’s at least functional and wearable, I’m going to just safety pin my robe onto the back straps so it never slips down low enough to show the ugly back!

Maybe one day in the future I’ll sit down and try to fix it properly, but it is what it is for now. I also repaired some missing rhinestones (especially on the boots, there was one big section at the ankles on one that had come off), and did the tweaks to the wig I wanted to do.

Then the Sunday big drama was Chase’s armor build. It’s a WoW character I don’t know. He only just started getting the armor rigged up this weekend, and we still had fabric parts to make. We did not get to the point of being able to even start the fabric parts until 3pm yesterday. I had a scarf, a kama and a capelet to make. They are all pretty ugly and made fast – the cape and kama just have a turned over hem that I hate but we didn’t have enough fabric to self-line and not enough time for facings. We got them done enough but he hasn’t tried it all on with the armor so I have no idea how it’s going to look. He also didn’t get to finish ironing on all of the HTV to the edges. He’s just packing it to do in the hotel room. I’m going to make him try it all on again in the hotel room tomorrow, because I’m not going through a bunch of drama of stuff not working during the con.

In between all of his madness I was trying to pack EVERYTHING. I had not packed ANYTHING until yesterday. Usually for dcon I’ve been packing for a couple of weeks, going ahead and pulling out old costumes and getting them in the bin. I’d done none of that so I had to do everything yesterday. Packing makes me feel crazy, because I’ll be trying to remember one thing I need to look for and remember 3 other things so now I’m trying to remember 4 things I need to find and it’s like too much for my brain.

But as of 10 last night we were like 99% packed. Just gotta straighten up this morning, pack the last few things (clothes, food, toothbrushes).

So when am I wearing what? No clue. Here’s kinda what I’m thinking:

Belle – maybe saturday afternoon
Padme/Taylor – thursday night since it’s bunny hutch-ish?
morticia – fri night? or sat night
picnic padme – fri morning for ladies of star wars for sure, hopefully at least one other time
space mutiny – fri or sat night
t’lyn – dunno
scully – randomly late nights
rogue – fri afternoon dealer’s room, maybe another time since it’s relatively comfy
Diane – sun morning for david lynch shoot
disneybound leia – ? dunno. I packed it to maybe wear for badge pick-up but I think I’m gonna wear rizzo instead. but it’s packed so we’ll see
wedding leia – maybe thurs afternoon? or sun afternoon
lake dress – dunno. sat morning or sunday sometime? if I dont wear it im not gonna cry
rizzo – think I may wear this for badge pick-up and go straight to the muppets shoot after.

I’m not going to drive myself crazy keeping up with a schedule or trying to wear everything. If I don’t wear T’Lyn or wedding or lake dress after bringing them down there… oh well. I’m tired. Hopefully a couple of days of chilling at the hotel before diving in will give me some energy.

OH I nearly forgot! Here’s the final Leia. Number 75. X-Wing Pilot.
