songs from the wood
Guess who is done with the chain stitching on the skirt??? ME! I started on 5/22 I think? So six weeks to do the skirt.

Don’t look at the hem, it’s stressing me out LMAO
I’m letting it hang for a few days before I steam it and stretch some of those shrunken areas back out. Releveling this hem is going to be a BITCH.
I’ve still gotta do the flowers. Got some stabilizer in yesterday – going to do a test flower tonight. I MAY redo one of my sleeves – the one I did the first test flower on and hated LOL. We’ll see. But anyway, tonight – test flower, hopefully that goes well and I can start on the other sleeve, and then onto the skirt ones?
Goals this week:
1. test flower
2. get flowers done??
3. get skirt steamed
4. attach skirt to waistband
5. fix hemline
6. finish underskirt
Would be great to have the skirt DONE by next weekend? That’s very lofty, especially considering we’ll be at a con this Saturday LOL. But a girl can dream.
Oh yeah we’re going to go over to Anime Blues Con saturday to see friends. Finally going to wear my Utena costume out of the house! LOL I got it out yesterday – got to fix the velcro on the epaulets, and had to recurl the face framing curls on the wig, but that seems to be the only fixes. I do need to try it on. It’s been nearly 4 years since I wore it LOL
Speaking of, I was trying to think of a second, easy costume I could just have in the car in case I can’t do Utena all day and want to change in a public restroom. I was like, oh what about my white Utena uniform? That way I wouldn’t even have to change wigs. LOL why did i think I could fit in a 23 year old costume?? I could actually get the jacket on because it’s slightly stretchy, but the skirt was a no-go! I pulled out Fionna as a backup instead.

Thursday I had to go to the dentist again. Kinda last minute, and nothing bad this time – the special mouthwash they gave me had stained my teeth really bad. So they said I could come in and they’d polish it up. I was hoping they’d tell me how much better everything looked, but they didn’t. Oh well, at least my teeth don’t look yellow anymore. I’ve got the follow up later this month and I’m really worried how close that’s pushing to Dragoncon because I know more is going to need to be done, and the last thing I want is to be having oral surgery the week before Dragoncon. I know they’ll work with me on timing but it’s still a source of anxiety right now especially because it HAS been hurting off and on the last few days and I’m worried that’s going to get worse.
Anyway, Thursday after my appointment, Chase was off early and we ran some errands. Friday we stayed home and both worked on stuff. Saturday more of the same, except we decided we’d go see Supergirl that night. We decided we’d go to the latest showing we could to avoid hearing fireworks. Bought tickets for the 9:30 show.
Mom called that evening and said they’d been at a restaurant near the theater we were going to, and as storms pushed through (there was so much thunder!! it was crazy), the restaurant had lost power, and that whole area seemed to be down. So about an hour before we tried calling, no answer. We checked online, their seating charts weren’t working. We were like, well let’s just go see.

Closed!
We decided to drive to another nearby theater in the same chain. They were really nice and honored our tickets! But their showing wasn’t til 10 so we were way early. We had a drink in the bar, walked around and looked at the arcade games and finally went and sat in the theater for a while.
I really liked Supergirl! It was a fun time. It was nice to a see a character onscreen who reflected by 18 year old self – unwashed hair, dirty t-shirt, living in a mess with a dog she would kill for LOL
Yesterday we had a little bday party for our summer family birthdays.

Dad hanging out with Mabel
Afterwards I was ready to go home and take a nap, but Chase was like “let’s go to barnes and noble” and I don’t say no to that. So we went to B&N and I finally bought a copy of Dungeon Crawler Carl to start reading – I want to have at least read the first book before Dcon. Started it last night. They also gave us free samples of iced white mocha from starbucks and like, that sample size was the perfect size coffee for me LOL
Then Chase was like… you wanna go to the mall? So we went to the mall. There’s a new record store I wanted to look at, and it was fun! We didn’t buy anything anywhere, just walked and looked at things. Got home and took a late nap, then had dinner, watched the 2nd episode of XMen 97.
Art corner!
I am officially at 50 Leias.

The alternate version of the Marvel comics suit with the lighter cape, different hair, different patches and different boots.

Mal’ary’ush Leia. This one I thought would be fun to do because the one reference I had had no detail to it at all, so I kinda did some Mucha-inspired detailing around what existed.

This silvery-blue and white suit from TFU I think?

The white armor “dream sequence” from the Vader comics. I want to make this LOL

This silly dress from the Leia manga. I decided to give it colors like the parade dress.
While I was digging around I found 2 more Leia outfits from more recent Star Wars comics, so I’ll be doing those too, along with whatever costume descriptions I can find in the books I have.
I got stickers ordered! Unfortunately my welcome coupon expired so the price was higher and I wasn’t able to order as much. Knew I shouldn’t have dragged my feet so much. Guess I could’ve just made a new account (why didn’t I think of that last week…)
I got 4 inch stickers of Parade Amidala, Liberty Dies Padme, Tatooine Padme, Lake Padme, Picnic Padme, Ceremonial Leia, ANH Leia, Bespin Leia and Wedding Leia. 10 of each. I also got 3 inch stickers of the chibi versions of me as T’Lyn and Scarlet Witch. And then I got 50 stickers 2 silly non-costume/non-Star Wars things I drew just for Dragoncon – 20 of one design and 30 of the other. Wanted to have something a little more generic to trade for ribbons and stuff. So that’s 160 stickers to hand out. I may also throw in some other fandom stickers I have into the goodie bag.
