Ursula (and other Mermaid Costumes)

Ursula from The Little Mermaid made in November 2018 for a middle school production.
Black satin dress includes boned bodice with purple vinyl details and built-in panniers. Purple mesh and black netting accents at hips and shoulders. Tentacles worn separately over the dress made of batting, satin, netting and vinyl.

Dressform

In addition to Ursula, my mom and I together also constructed 7 Mermaid costumes and one very quick Kiss the Girl Ariel dress.

The mermaid costumes consisted of a metallic spandex sheath skirt with an elastic waist, and a matching top, and matching “fins” made of netting.

The Kiss the Girl dress was made in less than a day and includes a white cotton blouse with gathered sleeves, a boned black cotton bodice and a blue cotton skirt. All elements were sewn together and it zips up the back, to make it easy for her quick change backstage.
