    More Meg

Wow two posts on the costume in one day. I went home for lunch and experimented with tacking the pleats down. I don’t care for the “pucker” it creates but it does keep the pleats closer to the body, so it may be a tradoff I can live with.

    Meg

I’ve got 3 more nights to work — I’ve got to finish the wig, and finish tacking down the pleats. And paint my medallions and get them attached. I’m tackling the wig tonight – I’m hoping to FINISH it tonight, fingers crossed. Then Tuesday and Wednesday, tacking pleats, washing and restyling my Belle wig, and fixing one thing on Belldandy.…

My fav aspect of Disney’s Hercules has always been the character design. Here’s a great link of Gerald Scarfe’s awesome concept character designs for the movie.

    MomoCon Plans!

I’ll be at Momocon weekend after next! I’ve never been before so I am excited! At the moment I’m planning on bringing Donna, Belldandy, Belle, and Meg (which is new! I’ve got progress in my blog…). Since I’ve never been I don’t know when I’ll wear what, exactly. I will hopefully wear each of those costumes at some point between…

    MEG! Progress. Finally.

So I finally feel like I make some headway on Meg. I finally figured out the pleats – but I stopped working on them and focused on other parts of the costume. I started working on the sashes: I cut the base out of some really nice lavender satin I had in my sash, then layered the chiffon on top.…

    Dragoncon 2014 Song

Every year I end up picking out a song that is my “dragoncon song” for the year. A song gets to be a “dragoncon song” by either being something I’ve played a lot over the summer while working on costumes, or just because it makes me think of dragoncon. I thought I’d put together a playlist of my dragoncon songs.…

    Meg

Argh. I feel like I’ve basically gotten nothing done last night…. I started sewing down pleats again last night after starting over…. and I got through four of them when I, again, decided I didn’t like how they looked. So I ripped them out. And this is officially the last time I can do that, the fabric is starting to…

    New Belle Photos

A couple of weeks ago, I had planned to do an outdoor location photoshoot with Chasing Photography of my new Belle ballgown. Well, we got rained out. So, to make up for it, we did a white backdrop shoot of four of my Belle costumes! I’ve updated each of my portfolio pages with some of my favourites 🙂

    On talking smack

If you’re going to talk smack about someone’s costume, you need to at least be familiar with the thing you’re talking smack about. I made a Sana Kurata costume back in the day, based on the anime/manga “Kodocha.” It’s never been ALL that well-known here, but I very much enjoyed it, had fansubs of the later seasons that were never…

    Round-up

A lot of thoughts, discussions, and purchases this weekend. Here’s a breakdown of everything I have going on. 1. Meg – still sewing pleats. Good grief. I took my dress, my pins, needle & thread, scissors and my ironing board and dressform to my grandma’s this weekend. I got out of my car and warned her, “You’re going to think…

FAQ Friday: Finding a Pattern to use

Today’s question is… How do you pick out a pattern to use for a project? What pattern did you use for this costume? I get a lot of people asking me what patterns I use for projects – and I try to mention it on my build pages, and I have a whole pattern index of my collection over on…

    Hair & Wigs

Last night I pulled out my Meg wig stuff and started playing with it to get ideas. Just slapped together to see how everything is looking. I need to sew my wefts into the wig cap before I actually do anything – the wig I got wasn’t made for up-dos, so I need to add some extra hair to cover…

    Adventures in Fabric

First off, many thanks to my husband who has been dealing with Joann Fabrics for me trying to hunt down more of this fabric. Secondly, a lot of this post is just me venting frustration. First off, why would you ever manufacture a fabric only 45″ wide. This needs to stop. The shortest should be 60″. So, to recap, I…

    Peggy Carter – Thoughts

I’ve been entranced by WWII uniforms ever since I tried my grandfather’s Air Force uniform jacket on several, several years ago. The construction of it was just so beautiful. So, I thought this would be fun to do. I’ve got a wig picked out. And I’ve been hunting fabric. The problem with the fabric, though, is cost. I found something…

    Anne Boleyn – Thoughts

So, I decided instead of Marie Antoinette, I’d do Anne Boleyn. A few reasons: 1. Marie Antoinette would be a rehash of the one I made in 2011. I wanted to make a dress I dreamt about – and it was basically the same thing as the blue one, just a different colour scheme. Same wig, too. I still want…

    Anniversary stuff + Meg

I’ve got to get a better photo of it to post, but for now, Chase got me this for an anniversary present: It’s me in my Belle ballgown, as drawn by our friend Jon Wollack! I’m really excited to have a piece of his artwork. I can’t wait to get this up on the wall in my sewing room –…
