Kevin’s Link (Legend of Zelda) costume from 2004/2012.

Kevin’s Link costume has undergone a LOT of updates over the years.

The original version (seen above) I made for him for MTAC 2004. I made a tunic and hat out of cotton, he used some regular elf ears, a couple of belts we already had, and I made him the gauntlets and boot covers out of some leftover vinyl from my Quidditch costume. The shield was foam, painted and decorated with craft foam.

It wasn’t great but he loved it so I set about updating it when I could.

Next update was 2006. He lost his hat at MTAC 2006, so I had to make him a new one. I found a seller on ebay who made a belt/strap and boot cover combo, so I got those for him, and we got a wig, and new, pointier ears.

We also got him a “real” sword and shield set as a birthday present.

In 2013 it was time to update again – this time we ditched the green cotton and I made him a new faux suede tunic and hat, and a new undershirt with a lace-up collar. Also got him a lighter-weight (and cheaper) wooden sword with a scabbard for cons.

Most recent update!
In 2016 he wanted to wear Link to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, so it was time for more updates. His vinyl belts and gauntlets got a repaint to better match the actual leather pieces. I removed the “foot cover” off his boot covers, repainted what was left to match his shoes. And since we obviously didn’t want to take a sword and shield into Disney World, we got him a Link shield backpack. It came in handy when the night was too hot for most of his costume – he ended up carrying the hat, gloves, and gauntlets in the backpack most of the night. (Good thing we didn’t take the wig!)

We need to get him out in the newest version WITH the wig and get some new photos for him.
