Princess Leia – Star Wars (Doll Poncho)
Made for: MidsouthCon 2006
Background: I came across photos of unproduced outfits meant for the Princess Leia doll from the 70s (as seen here). I loved them – particularly the poncho outfit. I decided to put this together just for fun.

Patterns Used: None
Poncho: I found this fabric on the sale rack at Hancocks. I made a pattern out of newsprint, then used it to make the actual poncho. I interfaced it (though ran out of interfacing after doing one side, and couldn’t find the same weight to use for the other side… so one side is a tad bit droopier than the other! Oops!) I added the hood, and the trim, and the tassel at the end of the hood.
Accessories: I just wore jeans with it, and I had the boots, and borrowed the binoculars from my dad.
History: This was a fun little project. I only ever wore it for MidSouthCon, so one of these days I need to throw it on again.
Update: Well it took me a while – but I finally got it cleaned up and shot on the white backdrop in 2022.
