Made for: Dragon Con 2021

Background: I wanted to do a Twin Peaks costume and this is the one that spoke to me.

So one of the reasons I picked this particular look of Diane’s is because I figured I could buy a skirt, buy a sweater, buy shoes, wig, etc and just add appliques to the sweater. Super easy right? Of course it never ends up being that way.

Skirt:
I decided instead of spending money on a skirt, I had enough leftover black material from Scarlet Witch, and I had the above skirt pattern, I’d just make it. Made it in a night, just had to buy a zipper. And it’s super comfy! Just wish I’d added pockets!

Sweater:
After a lackluster search for a sweater that looked close I decided eh, let’s just make this too. I bought this sweater material on amazon, made a mock-up out of scrap fabric, and cut the pieces out of the sweater material using the mock-up as a pattern. I had to self-line it so it wouldn’t be see-through. All was going well until I made a mistake at the neckline opening and realized it is COMPLETELY impossible to unpick threads from this sweater fabric without tearing it up. Decided it’d be easier to just buy more yardage and start over LOL. So that’s what I did. Second one went together very easily although once I’d nearly finished it, I realized it was too big and really needed the back piece cut thinner. Obviously I wasn’t going to take it apart — so I just added a seam up the center back to take it in. Don’t love that, but oh well. I added the collar and a little hidden button closure at the neck.

Appliques:
After searching for gold dragon appliques and not finding anything close enough, I decided since I still had my trial embroidery software active from Padme, why not try designing it and making them myself? It took a few attempts and some tweaks to get something decent looking. I also ending up making them slightly smaller than I would’ve liked – the first version I did at a larger size took HOURS to run on the embroidery machine and just shaving a little size off halved the embroidery time. They’re not perfect but for my first attempt for a fun Dcon costume, I’m overall really happy with how they turned out.

Etc:
The wig I bought from Epic Cosplay Wigs, cut the bangs a bit wider and more blunt, and cut to be about chin length. Steamed the ends to curl under a bit so it wouldn’t be stick straight. Shoes I had from my bespin Leia disneybound, and the bracelet was one I had in my stash. I need to add another bracelet but never got to it before dcon – I’ll do that before I do a photoshoot.
Originally I bought fake nails so I could do her multi-colored nail look. Was going to put them on at the con with pros-aide. But I dunno if my pros-aide was old, but I couldn’t get them to stick to my nails at all. Didn’t really have the time to research other options so I just went without at the con – so I’ll have the painted up correctly for the eventual photoshoot.

History: This was one of my most comfortable costumes at dcon 2021 so I’m sure she’ll make a return next year.
