Johanna, etc

So gosh, what all did I do this weekend? So much work to remember. Friday night, saw Guardians of the Galaxy, a lot of fun. Saturday morning had a Spin-a-thon I went to as Wonder Woman, fun. Saturday afternoon-evening, family cookout with way too much food. Around all that, I finished my surprise costume! Top to bottom. All done. Would have been done SLIGHTLY faster if I hadn't made two ...

Surprise costume updates

It's kinda hard to talk updates when I'm not saying what it is yet. but I'll try. I got the backs put together last night (outside and lining), and pinned to the front sections. After that I had to stop, since I need my front design cut out (Chase is doing that for me) so I can sew it on before I put the whole suit together. I experimented with ...

FAQ Friday: Dragoncon Photo Spots

Today's question is... Thanks for your Dragoncon post! Where do you suggest to go to take a photoshoot that isn't too crowded? I talked a little bit about photo spots in my DragonCon post mentioned there a while back, so here's some more thoughts! First, be sure you go check out this amazing compilation of photo locations around the host hotels and Dragoncon area! Now, here's some of my favourite ...

HAAAAT

I got my new hat for Marie Antoinette, omg I love it. Can't wait to decorate it this weekend. Also, now that my Peggy wig has fully dried - I really like it. I don't think I need to recurl it. I think I can just jump right into styling, so that's nice!

Things I Miss at DragonCon

Piggy-backing on yesterday's post about changes at DragonCon, today I'd like to look back at some DragonCon things that I miss. 1. The Photo Gauntlet Last time I did the masquerade (2006) it was just contestants standing on a stage with photographers taking photos. I'm guessing that's still the way they do it? It's not nearly as exciting and memorable as the old photo gauntlet. I wrote about it here. Man that ...

26 days

26 days til we leave and I'm really starting to feel the pinch. Freaking out a little bit. I'm hoping to cross some small things off my list this weekend and really dig into Johanna. I'm hoping to have my surprise costume pretty much done by the end of this weekend -- I think I could have the bulk of it done by Sunday. To-Do list for the next week or ...

Dragoncon grumblings

In which am an old woman and want to complain about things. 1. No, I don't like the new logo. It doesn't say Dragoncon to me. The old logo looked like classic fantasy - a homey, nostalgic look that I think suited Dragoncon very well. I will continue to use the old one where I can. 2. I don't like the new parade route. The one from last year - it was ...

Belle

No, not my costume, last night I went to see the movie Belle which was a nice break from working and the costumes were very pretty. So I didn't get any sewing done to post about today, but I did play around with my Peggy wig some more. My original was too dark, as you may remember me griping about back in June. The only other one I could find ...

DragonCon Costume List

Costumes I'm (more than likely) bringing to Dragoncon: Donna Unicorn & Wasp: 10% done. If I finish it enough to wear. I'm only focusing on the front panels right now. If I don't get it done enough, I may throw together a Fires of Pompeii Donna instead. Anne Boleyn: 98% done YAY Peggy Carter: 95% done - finishing wig and belt soon Johanna: 15% done. Gotta get cracking! But I have most of my ...

Anne is almost done

I gave up on waiting on the rest of the appliques for the neckline. I pulled off the few I had on there, went to Hancock's yesterday morning and bought some trim. But let's start at the beginning. Friday I finished my corset. Saturday I ran out to Joann's since I had a gift card I needed fabric for my surprise costume. Got all that, came home and worked on ...
