2008 in review

What I accomplished in 2008
(and what I didn’t, LOL)

Well it was weird year for me, costume-wise, because the first part of the year was eaten by my wedding, both financially and time-wise. I was still attemping to work on stuff – to make things that were easy, or that I already had material for. I think after the wedding and our move after everything kinda got settled I tried to make up for it by doing way too much for Dragoncon (but then, I always do too much for Dragoncon… LOL)

At the beginning of the year, this was my wishlist:

1. Finish Padme nightgown
Didn’t touch it. It really doesn’t need a lot to be finished, I need to just sit down and do it!
2. Finish Lois Lane!
Nope.
3. Finish Polychome.
Nope – although I did dig out a lot of the pieces from 2005 as I cleaned stuff out and got them all together.
4. Finish Team Zissou uniform
Nope – I did find it at least! LOL
5. Bespin Leia.
I worked on it a little more earlier in the year, but not much.
6. Scarlet Witch. – finished!
7. Belle’s Green Dress. – finished!
8. Comic Book Starfire. – finished
9. Glinda of OZ – finished (sort of)
10. Padme’s Light Blue Tatooine outfit
nope.
11. Giselle (dunno which yet) – finished
12. A new Belle ballgown, to replace the old one
No, because Chase wanted to put off finishing Beast for another year. I did some fabric research though!
13. Leia Jedi
nope. one of these days.
14. Another Wonder Woman, dunno what yet – Ame Comi – finished!
15. A secret Belle costume – undead princesses – finished!

And these were my may-bes…
1. Amidala Red Invasion – heck no! LOL
2. Breha Organa – no, planning on it for 2010
3. Bastila Shan – nope
4. Some twi’lek – nope
5. Snow White – nope, did sleeping beauty instead LOL
6. Zatanna – finished!
7. Rogue – still want to
8. Anne Boleyn – still want to

So here’s what I accomplished…

1. Belle’s Library Dress

For Con Nooga in February… but I went back and re-did the sleeves and didn’t wear it until MidSouthCon in March.

2. Scarlet Witch

For MidSouthCon in march… this was on my want-to-do list, but I ended up doing it much sooner than I thought simply because it was easy to put together.

3. Padme’s Lake Dress #5

I started putting this together over the winter with materials I had, with the intent of selling it for extra money for the honeymoon. I ended up really not wanting to sell it LOL… but I did in August.

4. Giselle

This was the first thing I did after the wedding, trying to work on while we were moving LOL I thought it would fairly easy to put together but ended up not completely finishing it for Adventurecon in June… I went ahead and wore it anyway and remade the shoulder piece for Dragoncon.
I love this dress tho 🙂

5. Poison Ivy

For Adventurecon in June. Such an easy costume and got rid of the ivy leaves from my wedding LOL

6. Padme Snowbunny

I had gotten the materials for this a while back on sale, intending to make a cloak just to sell, but I went ahead and put it together for myself for the clone wars toy release in july.

7. Glinda

There’s always one costume that suffers in the pre-dragoncon madness and this year this was it. I never added the sleeves (I actually forgot them until I put it on and realised I was missing something – I was working off Ozma as a pattern so it just slipped my mind) and I’d like to remake the collar, and the wig, and the crown. I just wasn’t happy with the wig and Chase wasn’t happy with the crown, so I’ll be re-doing parts of this.

8. Beauty “and” the Beast

For the undead princess group at dragoncon! LOL I wish I’d had time/money to make a new skirt, but overall I was pretty happy with this.

9. Selene

It was sooo hard trying to sneak the pieces of this into the house, and trying to work on the boots! I bought most of this, I did the boots and took up the bodysuit and that was about it. The bodysuit could stand to be taken up again, before next convention.

10. Black Canary & Green Arrow

For Dragoncon… I only did Black Canary to go with Chase’s Green Arrow and ended up loving it!! (it was sooo much more comfortable than anything else I took LOL)
Chase decided to do Green Arrow (because it’s hard to find characters with goatees…) but didn’t want to do the regular outfit so we sort-of redesigned it. I made a tunic for him but after he wore it friday we decided we liked the outfit better without it and he left it off after that.

11. Zatanna

For Dragoncon… when I realised I wasn’t going to be able to finish my Dawn costume, Chase and I decided that left me time to put together Zatanna, a costume I’d wanted to do for ages by that point! I was really pleased with this costume, if it weren’t for the incredibly uncomfortable shoes I would have worn it a whole lot more at Dragoncon!

12. Starfire

For Dragoncon… I wanted to do this earlier in the year but wasn’t able to due to it being too expensive right before the wedding (WIGS!) so it was so awesome to have it finished, and I was really pleased with how it turned out. I will definitely be wearing this again at Megacon….

13. Ame-Comi Wonder Woman

For Dragoncon… though it almost didn’t happen due to the jerk who promised to make the chest piece/side pieces/belt for me (and Chase’s Green Arrow armor which also didn’t happen). I’m still ticked about that. For the last minute scrambling to get it finished it’s not bad, I’m pretty pleased, I guess it just sucks to think about how much happier I could have been with it if either the guy had come through with the pieces or Chase and I had had the time to come up with something else ourselves.

14. Sleeping Beauty

For Halloween! I really love how this came out! I can’t wait to wear it again, I just want to restyle the wig 🙂
Earlier in the year I started on a purple version, made out of leftover materials… it never got any farther than what you see there LOL but it definitely helped me in making the blue one, I knew what I wanted to change from the basics of this purple one.

15. Ahsoka

November for the Sci-Fi night… I’m not going to say much since I’ve already talked about it lately, I’ll just say MAN I’m glad that got done in time LOL

and who knows what else, I really still don’t have any kind of set list of what I want to work on when, like I usually do.

So, it was a good year… I’m pleased with everything I got done. 🙂
