2016 Year in Review!

I was going to say “it’s a little early for my year in review” but when I went back to look at last year’s to get my old plans, I did that one on 12/18! And this one is on 12/21 so I don’t think it’s early at all anymore. Ha!

So last year I said this would be this year’s plans… let’s see how what I accomplished.

1. Georgian Belle fixes
Nope… well, an attempt was made.

I got the extra pieces taken off the sleeves and sleeves pinned back on — but that’s about it. I still haven’t sewn them back in place or figured out how I’m going to bustle it. But I’m hoping to have that done in time for VisionCon in Feb. I spent too much money on this costume to not have it wearable! Fingers crossed.

2. Disgust & Sadness – Ash and I are doing these for MidSouthCon!
I did this!!

I need to fix the shoulder seam, it’s a little too big through there but that’s all. I’m hoping Ash can still do Sadness sometime!

3. Edith Cushing – Crimson Peak. Stuff is bought! I’m excited!
I did this too!! Well it was inevitable, since I already bought stuff for it, but still.

4. Bespin Leia – I’m GONNA DO IT! Finally. I swear it.
I didn’t finish it – heck I barely worked on it — but I HAVE made some progress. I have my fabric for the cape, my patterns are done, and I’ve just been stalling on actually put scissors to fabric.

But as I said just the other day, I did do a mockup of one of the design pieces on some scrap material last week, just to make sure the scale was right, and I was happy with it – so over the holidays I’m hoping I actually get to doing EMBROIDERY! I’ve put this off too long, IT IS TIME!

5. General Leia – maaaaaaaybe, looks fairly simple to put together.
This one is a big fat no. Still thinking about. But leaning more towards a Mon Mothma now.

Ok so what else did I do that wasn’t on the list?

Haunted Mansion Tightrope Walker
This was one of those that’s been on the “maybe” list for ages and when I was trying to decide on my ONE Dragon Con costume, this is what I picked.

White backdrop shoot soon!!

Galadriel
Does this really count?

I made absolutely nothing on this, it’s all pieces of other costumes, but whatever. I’m calling it a new costume for 2016.

Disneybound Leia
I made the shirt and shrug for our May Disney trip!

I wear the shrug on a regular basis now.

Belle dresses
I made Belle’s village dress and her ballgown for a production of Beauty & the Beast Jr earlier this year!

Glinda
And I also collaborated with my mom to do a Glinda “Popular” dress for a theater project – I did the bodice, and she did the skirt:

How To Succeed in Business
Another collaboration with mom – we made 6 of these polka dot 60s-style dresses for some of the cast for a local production.

Luke Tunic
Made a new Luke tunic for Kevin, because his old cotton one was junk.

I need to install a hidden hook-and-eye in it to keep it closed, though. When he wore this at Megacon, it was gaping too much and you could see his t-shirt.

“Revolver” shirt
Ok I guess this doesn’t really count as a sewing project but oh well. I loved this Star Wars/Revolver mashup but couldn’t find it on a shirt I liked, so I made my own. It’s not great but it was a fun little project and I enjoyed wearing it at Disney World.

Seven Dwarfs Skirt
I picked up this fabric back when our Hancocks was closing and I decided I’d make a skirt for our September Disney trip!

I actually made two of these — I made a 2nd one in October for a friend of mine’s birthday with the rest of the fabric!

Queen Arianna
I didn’t finish this but I did do some work on it. Rapunzel’s mom from Tangled! I was actually constructing this out of an old, unfinished, purple Sleeping Beauty dress.

I was going to do this for the WDW Halloween party but I decided to wear the Tightrope Walker instead and stopped working on it. I’ll pick it back up again later. I’ve gotten all the pieces dyed down to a colour I like better and everything is just ready to be put back together and finished.

Dolores
I’m not going to talk much about this, since that’ll be in my next post, and I’m not going to finish it this year, but I figured I might as well include since I’ve gotten a good bit done this year!

I think that’s it. It was a low output year due to our Disney trips eating up all of money and time and only doing Dcon for one day.

So! 2017!
Here’s some stuff I’m thinking about.

1. Georgian Belle – as I said above, finish it up for Visioncon.
2. Dolores – I’m also aiming for VisionCon on this one but if everything goes smoothly, I may have it done in time for SFCC at the end of Jan.
3. Bespin Leia – duuuuh. Trying to have it done for Star Wars Celebration.
4. Mon Mothma – maybe. Been thinking about it for a while.
5. Ghostbusters – Ash and I are talking about doing Ghostbuster costumes… I order Holtzmann glasses with my birthday money! I don’t expect this to be a quick project tho.
6. Pink Sleeping Beauty – another one I’ve been thinking about for a while. Well I ever get to it? Time will only tell
7. Finish that dang Elsa corset – I started this ages ago, been working on it off and on all year, I was going to do a giveaway with it and I just haven’t had time to finish it.
8. Finish Queen Arianna – like I said above there’s not much left to do on it. I just don’t have an end goal for where to wear it.

And that’s all I got. I think I’m going to ask on instagram and facebook for ideas. Because almost all of that list is “finish” or “fix” outside of Mon Mothma and Ghostbuster suits. I want new ideas and looking through my gallery of saved pics of stuff I’ve thought of in the past… nothing is clicking. HMMM.
