Halloween, part 2

Yesterday’s weather was awful. It rained and stormed all day, with high winds. Last year we didn’t have as many trick-or-treaters as before and the weather was fine, so I figured, this bad weather is going to chase the bulk of them off – I’ll be surprised if we get 5 trick-or-treaters. At least we had good candy that would eventually get eaten (Reese’s!).

Well the rain stopped around 5 and then the trick-or-treaters started coming. And kept coming. We ran out of candy! There were so many of them!
Also way too many kids not wearing costumes. Next year I may go with giving them soy sauce packets like I’ve seen other people doing, or making up costumes for them. “Oh look an off-duty astronaut. Oh look a plain clothes detective.”

One little girl was completely terrified of Indy. Usually it’s our creepy servant decoration that scares kids. I’ve never seen a kid scared of placid, docile Indy, LOL. Poor thing.

My favourite kid was a little guy dressed as a ninja, about 5 or 6 years old. I gave him his candy and started to leave, and then turned around and told me, very earnestly, “I’m going to remember this house forever. This house smells so good. It smells like donuts.”

So here’s my decorations. I painted a piece of paper to look like a stone wall, and then hung a “curtain” across it, then blocked off the hallways with black fabric.

I should have put the fabric up a little higher, but I’m too short and was in too big of a hurry to wait on Chase to do it!

Anyway – I got a cheap cauldron, repainted it and put dry ice in. Stuck that on one of our wedding columns, and our creepy little servant man was back as Filch this year. Also put our broom and gryffindor sword in the umbrella stand.

My favourite part was all of my potions bottles. I printed a bunch of free potions labels I found on pinterest and put them on all my bead bottles. Added a fake candleabra, tea lights, our wands, and some other spooky things (a raven, a rat, a skeleton and a book).

And our pumpkin was Harry Potter.

4 more hours of work and then off to GMX for the weekend! I’ll make that a separate post 🙂
