I made this video as a joke, after feeling like a

I made this video as a joke, after feeling like a truck ran over me post-HSV Expo. But it’s true; I’m still trying to do conventions like I did 20 years ago. Running full steam ahead, wearing as many costumes as possible, doing every single event, meet-up and photoshoot I can, no breaks, just tape my feet, slap some bandaids on, take some ibuprofen and keep going, because I can sleep when I get home.

I’ve made a few concessions over the last decade, we do fewer cons in a year. I eat better at cons than I used to. Sometimes I wear flats instead of heels 😹. But I’ve been coming to the realization lately that something has got to give.

So I decided to use this silly video as a way to announce something that’s been on my brain for a long time now. I’m certainly not quitting costuming in any way, but I did decide that there’s one thing I can control and that’s how MUCH I do at conventions, and with that I’ve decided, outside of things I’m already committed to, I am retiring from doing anything “official” at conventions going forward - namely guesting, panels and judging.

I have so loved doing all of those things. I have been so incredibly honored to be a guest at several conventions, I have loved doing panels about some of my fav costume subjects, and I have especially loved judging and getting to see peoples’ hard work up close. And I have loved all the people I’ve met through those things.

It was not an easy decision to make, as I said I’ve been thinking about it for a long time now. But at the end of the day, this is the one thing I can remove from my plate to make my life easier at conventions - to not have stress of needing to be somewhere when I have a migraine, or to not have time to change out of an uncomfortable costume because I’ve got to be somewhere. Without those “official” things in my schedule, I can go take a nap when I want to 🙂

I am so glad to have had these opportunities, but now I will step aside and let other talented costumers take over. I’ll still be at my usual conventions, still trying to wear too many costumes, but now with a few less places to be and things to do 🙂 #ladyjessicacosplay #dunecosplay #dragoncon

I got an iPad for Christmas and I’ve really been

I got an iPad for Christmas and I’ve really been enjoying procreate. This Ahsoka was an early doodle while trying to get acclimated. I’ve been drawing in photoshop with a Wacom tablet since 2001, and I never loved it. But an Apple Pencil with procreate is fantastic. We are finally at the end of the Padme series. Based this one on McCall’s 3818 from 1956 which was a perfect long coat (turned into a cape) and mermaid style dress.

Even though I’m done with Leia and Padme now, I have more characters already done and ready to post! Let me know who you’d want to see first!

I’ll also be posting the next sets with the new format I started using about halfway through Padme - I kept using the “background squiggle” for the rest of the Padme posts just to keep things consistent, but I can’t wait to switch over to the new look for these 🥰 and I promise they’ll all be up at my website soon. #starwarsart #starwarsfanart #padmeart
