Chase’s Scary Suit
Just a Plain Ol’ Suit
Made in 2019

I’d been wanting to get more familiar with mens’ tailoring in general, and when Chase & I booked Victoria & Albert’s for our anniversary dinner on our upcoming Disney trip, he asked if I’d want to make a suit for him. So I said sure!

I used a Vogue pattern for the suit, because that was what I found recommended as a good suit pattern online. I went through two mock-ups of the jacket, one of muslin and one of out of a star wars print that will eventually be wearable once I finish the sleeves and put the buttons on. We used a linen for the actual suit.

It was honestly the hardest thing I’ve sewn in years. It made me cry! There were so many pattern pieces and the directions often didn’t make sense. So once I got the jacket pretty much finished, I looked at the pile of pattern pieces for the pants and said forget this. His pants were made from a much more straight-forward Simplicity pattern that was super easy and took a night to put together.
I’d still love to take a class and learn more with an actual instructor one of these days but at this point I don’t think I’m going to try it again anytime soon. I do have a good pants/shorts pattern that works well for him now, at least!
