I had bought these red pants for my Lina Inverse costume, and at Otakon 2002, Ash and I named “the Buffy Pants” – because that’s what they looked like, like pants Buffy would wear. I decided, why not, I’ll go ahead and put together that one Buffy look (you know the one, black top, red leather pants) for Dragon Con 2002, since they had a few Buffy guests coming and I thought it would be a fun downtime costume.

The shirt is just my Misato shirt. I bought the necklace online, the claddagh ring at a local store, and my dad carved “Mr Pointy” for me. (Which I decorated with Star Wars stickers, like the child I was.) The wig I bought online also. It wasn’t great – but I did win a signed photo of Robin Sachs for being the only person at a panel in costume. That was pretty cool. I wore this a lot that weekend.

I also did a second version at Dragon Con 02 – I had the black pants and other blonde wig there for my Ruby Heart costume, threw on a different shirt with the same accessories and voila – 2 Buffy costumes in one go.

I’ve thought so many times in recent years of bringing this costume back, but sadly the pleather pants totally disintegrated – I was cleaning out the costume closet in 2020 and discovered they were nothing more than a melted flaking mess so into the trash they went. One day I will get some replacement pants because I need to shoot Buffy and Lina Inverse, and then maybe I can bring Buffy back to Dragoncon.
