Princess Leia – Star Wars (Huttslayer)

Made for: San Diego Comic Con 2005

Background: I originally said I would never do this costume; but then I decided I wanted to do all of Leia’s costumes, so here we are.

Bikini Pieces:

At the time, I knew there was no way I could make this by myself and have it last! I ended up buying this kit. (Personal note, I no longer support the person I bought this kit from, which is why they are not credited here. I do not want to be associated with them and will not recommend them; if you are looking to do a huttslayer bikini these days I highly recommend looking into 3d printed pieces.)

So I didn’t make the “hard” parts of this costume. I did heat form some of the pieces to fit better, but that’s about it. Over the years it has broken in a couple of places – namely one of the “arms” that goes around the chest cracked at some point (the interior wire form stayed intact) and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve re-glued it back together!

Fabric Pieces:

I made the inserts that go in the bra top out of some suede remnants, and the skirts out of some wine-coloured lining material. In 2007 I made new skirts, see below for details. There are snaps built into the front and back panels, so I just added matching snaps to the top of the skirts so they can be snapped onto the panels and easily removed for washing.

One of my requirements for doing this costume was being able to wear underwear with it, so that’s something I brainstormed immediately upon receiving the kit. I found some underwear that just has strips of elastic as the side panels (basically a variation of a string bikini bottom, but no ties), and it fit perfectly under the elastic that joins each hip panel piece together. Just to make sure it didn’t show, I would usually wrap a little piece of tape around the elastic side of the underwear and the elastic of the hip panels at the front, to keep them held together while I wearing it. I have more indepth video showing this below.

Boots:

My original boots were a pair of moccasins I bought online and made the suede uppers. The suede uppers were not great, were not fitted and looked weird. My first boot toppers were craft foam, followed by a resin pair I bought from someone on the RL that broke in transit to me. I tried to reglue them together so many times and it never worked LOL So in 2007 I got all new boots and boot toppers, see below for updates.

Updates:

I made several updates over the years. The maker of the kit introduced his boot bracelets in 2007, and I bought those, and to go along with them I got a new pair of boots that looked better, too. I also added new chain links (bought on ebay), a different hairpiece, and made new skirts in 2007 – they are a much heavier silk and I like them much better, they hang nicer as I move and I don’t feel like I have to worry about a wardrobe malfunction quite as much LOL. The vibro-axe I bought off someone on the RPF, it’s my fav prop!

History:

For not having wanted to do it, I wore this costume OUT. It lasted a good long while, and while it’s still technically wear-able, that cracked “arm” of the top makes it uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. I have had it out for a few tiktok videos recently, and last time I had it out I noticed that the elastic that holds all of the upper skirt panels together is fraying and coming apart. So I think it’s time to permanently retire this one and, if I ever want to wear this to a con again, look at a 3d printed version.

Also, boy, if you ever want to feel shitty about yourself, post a video in a huttslayer bikini on tiktok and have it go viral. That alone makes me not want to wear this again LOL
