Dragoncon Stories: That One Time Ash Punched a Pregnant Lady

I seem to have less stories in later years, because a lot of the later years run together more. I don't know why that is. We're already onto Dragoncon 2006 stories now. This was my first year I wasn't rooming with the girls - I was staying with my BOYFRIEND who I'd met at Dragoncon the year before ;) I didn't include that as a story because I've already told it numerous ...

New corset

So remember yesterday how I said I "might" make a new corset? Well I made one last night. All scraps and stuff I already had: Some white cotton scraps for the lining, my leftover Haunted Mansion wallpaper for the outer layer. I had the boning, got the busk out of my old corset, and all the edging I had (which is why the corset is in white and the tabs ...

I got nothing

Well, I have pictures, but I didn't get a thing done last night, except for trying it on, realizing my back panel didn't fit right and needs to be remade, getting my undersleeves pinned into place, and discovering I hate my corset. Onto pics! So yeah, the dress fits me MUCH differently than the dressform, so the back panel I made doesn't fit right once it's on me. So Chase ...

Frustrated

It's been a shitty past couple of days. That being said, I'm beyond frustrated with a couple of sellers. I bought two things on June 30th - some appliques from an ebay seller for the neckline on Anne, which you've all seen me complain about lately, and then also some buttons from an etsy seller on the same day. I haven't received either of them. I just thought of the ...

Work, etc

I didn't get a ton done this weekend. I was pretty lazy. I missed around with Marie Antoinette, getting her cleaned up for Dragoncon. I'm wanting to walk in the parade in her this year, so I played around with ways to bustle it. This is what I ended up with: I sewed the ribbons on last night for that, so that part is all set. I'm shopping for a ...

Dragoncon Stories: That Time David Carradine Fell Through a Wormhole

So, Ash and I did the masquerade again that year, and it was again over at the Congress Center or whatever it was called. So we got dressed, loaded up and went on over. We ended up sitting around in a hall backstage for quite a long time. There we are in the background entertaining ourselves: We got there so early that hardly anyone else was there yet. We were ...

Skirt, finally

Last night I sat down and pleated the skirt, finally. Cartridge pleated it, then had to handsew it to the bodice. It was too thick to go through the machine. I'll probably go back over it again a few times just to be safe. Tonight, I'm going to fray-check EVERYTHING. Even with all the edges finished I'm still getting little "fluffs" of fray along the inside seams. Then... ah, clean ...

FAQ Friday: Armor

Today's question is... What's the best way to make armor for my costume? There are many ways to do armor, and I have tried a lot of them. I'll talk about some ways I have done armor in the past, and then link you over to some other tutorials that will be better than anything I could write. Please make sure you are safe when working with any kind of ...

Dragoncon Stories: That Time I Made Poor Shoe Choices

Dragoncon 2004 parade - we decided to walk with the LOTR group! This worked out since I had Arwen I wanted to wear, the mums had their hobbit costumes, and Ash got talked into wearing a cape and accompanying me to handle my train. My Arwen costume was very long and very white, so to keep it from getting destroyed by walking on the pavement, I made a drop skirt out ...

Flickr Thoughts

So, the past couple of months, I've been trying to clean up my flickr account. Retagging, resorting, etc. I've gotten to where I really hate flickr, and I'd totally move to some other site if it didn't mean basically killing most of the photos on my website for several months time. It's not even the annoying yahoo! redesigns I hate, it's the culture. What used to be a nice, supportive ...
