post-weekend… 2 weeks to go

Friday night and Saturday day I did my best to sew as much as possible. I did finally conquer the dress portion of the costume:

I got the top portion cartridge pleated and then sewn onto my yoke piece. I had to go back and fix some problems on the yoke that were causing a fit issue – that took up a bulk of my afternoon. While I got that problem fixed, I think a further problem may be that I have the sleeves rotated too far forward which is causing some pulling I don’t like… if I have time to fix it, I will, if not…. I won’t, because it’s still wearable either way.

When I needed a break from that, I decided to do a dye test for the clay staining at the bottom hem:

I had to keep reminding myself that this isn’t supposed to be blood, and that it’s ok for it to go a bit pink. I started out with scarlet though I mixed some dark green in at the end to give it more of a grungy feel… it’s not as saturated as I would like, but I was trying to not use up all my dye on the test, so hopefully using ALL of my dye on the real thing will improve the saturation.

Saw Civil War Saturday night, it was great.

Sunday I made a quick fabric store run and picked up some lace for the edging on the sleeves (I had some in my stash I was going to use — but it was given to me by my grandmother and I dind’t want to douse it in blood.) and some nude jetset for making gloves. I want to try to make skin-toned gloves I can douse in “blood” instead of having to cover my own hands in it and then have to try to get it out from under my fingernails when I’m done. We will see how that goes.

And finally last night I finally finished getting one of the yoke pieces pleated:

3 more to make tho 😛

My spoonflower fabric is supposed to arrive today, so I’ll likely tackle that next. I don’t think that will take long at all though, but it will be another break from the constant pleating and guessing on Edith.
