Well I am back on track but really feeling the time crunch. My fabric and interfacing all finally came in and I dug into the bag project.
These took longer than I thought; it took about an hour and half each purse just to sew them into the frames — mostly because I had so much trouble getting the needle back up through the hole from the wrong side so it would be 3 or 4 attempts before I got it through. Just made it take way longer than I expected. Also removing the appliques from my aunt’s wedding dress took longer than i thought — the stitches holding them on were TINY and often times stitched over multiple times.
But! They are done now. I did 2 with the larger appliques from the front and 2 with the smaller appliques from the sleeves. The insides are lined in blue satin leftover from Breha — so they’re something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue š
My hat for pirate night showed up!
It’s an elizabeth swann costume hat. Now to decorate it.
I pulled out a bunch of stuff I thought I could use. Since I’m doing pirate Ariel I wanted blues and greens. Found a blue feather leftover from the TARDIS hat, a blue flower, a green feather, and some sequin trim.
The green feather didn’t really work, and the flower just kinda disappeared int here, so I stuck with the sequin trim, the blue feather, and a found I had another one of the little rhinestone star fish charms I used for my Ariel ears, so I put that on there too.
I tried it all on last night – didn’t have my phone on me so I didn’t take a pic. But the Stevie skirt under the Belle skirt worked fine. I was going to add a belt but I don’t think I will anymore, I don’t think it needs it.
Like I said, thankfully my extra fabric for my dress showed up. I did get some progress done on that but no pics because it’s not even really enough to put on the dressform yet. Basically got all my pieces cut – outer fabric, interlining and lining. Got the basic underbust/waist area pieces put together and then the lining layer last night and I did decide to add boning – the pattern doesn’t necessarily call for it, but at the end of the instructions there’s a guide to adding it if you want to, so I decided to add it just because I like the structure of some boning in there.
Tonight I’ll keep trucking along – next up is assembling the strap mechanism. Wish me luck.
