Hey look I’m posting twice in one week. Because I’ve got disney on the brain and need to dump it all out in a post.
So I’m feeling pretty good about our re-re-re-scheduled Disney trip (was May 2020, then Nov 2020, now April 2021) is actually going to happen this time. While I know there’s still going to be restrictions and masks (ugh) I think things will have calmed down by then and we’ll feel ok going. And I need something to look forward to (especially since I really don’t know that dragoncon will happen this year. Fingers crossed.)
So I’m trying to get my brain wrapped around my Disney trip projects again. Last spring I was making a bunch of stuff for Dapper Day that of course got put on pause.
The most finished of the projects was the Black Widow dress:
Which I was SUPPOSED to be wearing at disney the night the Black Widow movie came out last year.
I’m just going to re-wear my disneybound Bespin shoes with it — but I’m thinking about my hair. I wanted to curl my hair for this but I don’t have the best track record of curls staying put in Orlando humidity. (2018 trip – I left Memphis looking like Shirley Temple after sleeping in curlers with setting lotion and by the time we were in the parks a few hours later, my hair was pin-straight.) So I’m considering getting a wig. Might do double duty for Dale, too. I don’t really want the extra layer of warmth from a wig, but I wouldn’t have to sleep in curlers and be fretting about my hair all day.
Speaking of, Dale is mostly finished but still have a few things to do.
I still need to hem the top and put a closure in the back. It’s just pinned on here. I also wanted to make a belt – I have to find my sketch of what I wanted to make again – need new shows, and finish the hat. Like I said in my last post, I got started on my hat again but ran into the issue of not having any millinery wire. So I got that ordered, it came yesterday, went to work on it again and… half the pattern is missing. I thought it would be in the “project” bin where the hat pieces and pattern envelope were, but it’s not. I can’t find it anywhere and the “brim” part is missing (it’s all the pieces for the hat I’d cut out. The non-cut parts were still in the envelope). UGH. So tonight I’m going to go through all the patterns I’ve had out in the last year, open them up, and see if those pieces got stuck in with something else. I really don’t want to have to rebuy it.
Chip’s jacket is probably about halfway done – outer shell and lining layers are put together. I have the cuff material, just waiting on the waistband material. I need to get those attached, get the collar attached, get it assembled. I can finish it in a day once I have everything.
I’m also planning to wear my Bespin disneybound again at some point – I need to find a better bra option to wear with it. The convertible thing I bought that pulls your bra straps down was OK – but the only bra I had that it worked on doesn’t fit great. So that’s on the list.
So that’s it for the Dapper Day projects – I’ve got theme park reservations for us for the dapper day parks so we’re good to go. I’ve also been juggling our planned dining reservations around. Thankfully most of the places we had planned to eat previously are still open, but the theme park reservation system made things more difficult. Like – we generally don’t sit down to eat at Magic Kingdom. We’ll do MK in the morning and then go to Epcot for dinner. But I think I’ve successfully got everything re-planned.
So onto the regular disneybound projects…
The lake dress shrug is done.
I need to figure out what to wear with it. Kinda just considering buying a pink camisole and some lavender/purple shorts. Something easy. And not yellow because I’ll want to reuse these items and I look terrible in yellow LOL. I was considering making a headband but I have my lake dress ears to wear with it. I may find some lavender hair bands and do like a multi-ponytail thing.
And the Leia disneybound is the one I have the least amount of work done.
I’ve got the jacket finished but that’s all. As I’ve mentioned previously I was going to make a 1 piece romper out of the jet set. I did the Stitch romper last year as a test. But I didn’t love how the 1 piece looked on me. So I think I’m instead going to make a simple pair of shorts – I have a vintage 80s culottes shorts pattern that I think would be perfect – and then just a simple white camisole.
I’m also planning to make a park-friendly belt – white vinyl and 3d printed pieces.
I dunno this is the one project that hasn’t fully solidified in my mind. But – I’m going to make a camisole out of that Star Wars blue and white knit fabric this weekend (hopefully, if my ancillary fabric shows up – it’s “delayed”) – so that’ll be a good test to see if I want to continue with the Leia look I currently have in mind. I’m going to try to build a bra into this camisole – let’s see what happens.
So anyway, that’s all the sewing projects I need to do for the trip. Oh wait – no it’s not. I also need to make masks. I’ll be using scrap fabric to make masks for everything. I plan on getting one of those under mask shaper things that keep the mask from sitting right on your face – going to order that soon so I can tweak my current pattern to make sure it fits over it. I’ve got scrap leftover from the Dale shirt, scrap leftover from the widow dress, scrap leftover from the lake dress shrug, scraps leftover from both bespins, and I know I have plenty of white stuff for a leia mask. Also going to make some non-outfit specific masks out of my various disney fabrics I have. I want to have extra so in case one gets wet I can switch out.
So yeah this weekend will be –
1. hat pattern piece hunt
2. starting on the star wars knit camisole
3. shopping for padme stuff online
